Vsserv.exe Crashes When Using Exact Audio Copy

Internet Security 2010 (vsserv.exe?) systematically crashes when I use Exact Audio Copy (free download at www.exactaudiocopy.de) to rip my CDs. It can crash when EAC checks the CD info on FreeDB.org, or when EAC is detecting the gaps between the tracks or shortly after EAC converts the WAV file to FLAC with the command line encoder FLAC.EXE from flac.sourceforge.net. Bottom line, it does not seem to be linked to a specific process.

First the "Net Zone" window shows the red X then the "File Zone" window does the same and the BitDefender icon in the lower right of the screen turns grey with "BitDefender Services are not responding. Please restart your computer". I cannot restart BitDefender from the Windows START menu, but it seems to restart if I check a file for viruses with the contextual menu (right click "Scan with BitDefender"). Sometime there is a BitDefender pop-up window asking me to report the problem "BitDefender Security Service has encountered a critical error", but mot of the time I get no warning.

Anybody with the same issue?

It is the fourth time in one week that I am reporting this problem to the BitDefender Support department via the Support link and that I am sending the requested dump files ! I am not even sure that the uploaded files went through since "LOG_BDSW_vsserv.txt" says "Submission result: [submission failed: [9]]" and "LOG_BDRI_vsserv.txt" stops at "Waiting for BdSubwiz.exe...".

I logged in to My Support on the BitDefender website to be granted "Unable to process contact messageDB insert error" when I tried to submit my problem.

It is extremely annoying especially since I never had the problem with Internet Security 2008. I still have not been contacted by the Support department and I have not received a ticket ID. I don't know if my system is still protected if I don't reboot and I don't know if somebody is working on this issue. It makes me lose confidence in the product and I am seriously considering returning my unopened box (I am still using the trial version") and try another AV software, especially if I am still being ignored by the support department.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 and the BD Engine version is 7.28562

  • Hello XoffVSG,

Please go to the next location from your system C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BitDefender\Desktop\Temp (Windows XP) or C:\ProgramData\BitDefender\Desktop\Temp (Windows Vista and Windows 7), archive these files, upload the resulting archive on http://www.sendspace.com/, then post here the download link.

We are looking forward to your reply.

    Thank you.

There are two sets of files: one crash that happened on 25/10/09 and another from 27/10/09

I am looking forward to reading your explanation of the problem.

    Regards.
