Could Not Scanning Incoming E-mails / Attachments

I'm currently still using version 8 Client Professional edition.

A colleague of mine notified me that the client program could not scan incoming e-mails or attachments even though we've turned on Virus Shield with the incoming-email scan option enabled / checked.

I was told that this was largely because Virus Shield is set to scan for mails for (in this case POP / SMTP) exclusively on ports 110 and 25. I am not sure whether this is the cause of the problem. Anyhow, another problem is that our network is behind a proxy server and we're using ports 4110 and 425 as POP and SMTP respectively. Is there anyway to have the scanner to use our port numbers to scan for attachments and incoming e-mail?

  • Hi Melvin,

No, there's no way of doing that (I don't yet know if BD v11 can do this, but all versions since BDv10 scan only ports 110 and 25).

Anyway, you are still protected, because if you receive an e-mail with an infected attachment, BitDefender will react if/when you try to open that attachment.
