When I instaled new beta Bitdefender total securety after install I got this message:

The procedure entry point Get process image file name W could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL, and Skype get off, and I can't open bitdefender, when I run system restore I get several messages during system restor. After system restore everything is ok. But even when I instal older version as v10 I get this message.

Use the windows search option and enter as search term PSAPI.DLL. You may only find it in the following folder: X:\Windows\System 32 (change x by the letter of your hard disc). Delete or rename the others. Reboot your pc afterwards. Why are you still using the bèta you can download also a trial version for total security 2008? You can find it here

No good I delete DHCPSAPI.dll and stil can't oper Difender (trail). Now I can't instal skype at all.

You have to delete other PSAPI.DLL entries which are not located in the system 32 folder and not DHCPSAPI.dll. Which is a totally different file. You have now removed an important file. Download this file and place in the system 32 subfolder of the windows folder. You have to extract it in the system 32 subfolder.

Uninstall BitDefender while using this tool. Use microsoft installer cleanup. You can download it here

Install it an select the reference to skype and press on remove and confirm.

I know dhcpsapi.dll is important file because I couldn't get to the windows <img class= " /> . I had to format C:\ . I don't have any other psapi file on disk except on c:\windows\system32.

If it still fails after a complete re install of windows. Try this go to start,run,type

regsvr32 "C:\Windows\System32\psapi.dll" press enter. You could also have some corrupt registry entries. So I recommend that you download this program Install it start the program and use the registry cleaner. Reboot your pc afterwards.

When I take a look the error it's caused by skype. Try to install the latest version of skype and see if works.

I never had problems with Skype. When I instal Difender without Skype I can't open Difender to change something and when I do system restore I get several messages obout: The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL

For me there must be some kind of a conflict between skype or another programme and BitDefender. Did you already tried the newest version of skype? So there windows search couldn't find any other PSAPI.DLL ? What search options did you selected? You have to select all files and folders,go to advanced options,check every option and press on search. Post also the locations where you find psapi.dll

@Brezdelnez - could you compare the MD5 checksum of the PSAPI.DLL file before and after installing BitDefender? That is, after you do a system restore, and then after you install BitDefender. You can get an MD5 checker here

It seems that either BD installed a different version of PSAPI.DLL on your computer, or it patched it, or damaged it for some reason. I would suggest that you try to make a backup copy of the file before you install BD, and then after you install it, replace the altered file with your original version.

This isn't possible to do in a normal Windows session because the file is in use, so you'll have to try to do it in Safe Mode. I haven't tried that, but if it's in use in Safe Mode too, it'll have to be done in a console session, but try Safe Mode first.

I trust you but if you wanted to be 100 % sure that the file isn't infected in some way put in your windows installation cd-rom go to start,run,type cmd press enter and afterwards type sfc /scannow and press enter. That would also my next suggestion.

I know that the files are clean but downloading user-attached files from a forum isn't something I would usually recommend. Your suggestion should work too, but indeed it requires the Windows installation CD, which might not be available if the computer came with Windows pre-installed (i.e. OEM version).

You are right system file checker will only work with an windows cd-rom. What you can try also is by using the expand command to copy a clean psapi.dll file to the system 32 folder.

my internet connection is off but I repaired with Niels sugestion:

Go to the firewall section,traffic,reset profile,choose trusted network or direct connection let autodetect zones enabled press on ok.

That should work.

Before instalation copy paste the originale psapi.dll file to the desktop (working system)

Instal BitDefender, download Replacer_pre.zip in the posts aboe, then create folder (supose to the desktop) then extract Replacer files in the folder, clik the replacer.cmd, then drag original psapi file to the window (*:\Windows\system32\psapi.dll) press enter then drag psapi file that you made copy on the desktop pres enter pres Y restart and ENJOY.

You must have your psapi file in C:\Windows\system32\psapi.dll your windows wouldn't work if you don't have that file.

Thank you for a solution that worked. I'm sorry but Niels doesn't seem to know what he is talking about basicly. The PSAPI.DLL file is a file you can't touch, not even in safe-mode. The thing that solved it for me was the replace.exe file you attached. I bought BitDefender thinking it was a good anti-virus. I'm going back to the store tomorrow to change it for NOD32..

Why you ask? Because the ###### program made me, 9 years of experience in MS enviroment, go nuts over these popups. Also, what the **** does my choice of anti-virus have to be messing with my windows files? No thank you.
