Firewall Settings For Home Network

I am running 3 Windows 7 64-bit machines in a home network. 2 Laptops on WiFi, one desktop on LAN.

Internet connection is trough a router to a cable modem, to the outside world.

What is the recommended setting for:

Trust Level

Stealth Mode?

Do I need to consider zones?

An aside:

I installed BD2010 IS on the two laptops. I found it surprising that the automatic settings assigned by BD were different for the 2 laptops. The Trust/Stealth settings were set as Trusted Local/On for the first laptop and Unsafe/Off on the second one.... wierd. The only difference was that I was trialing BD antivirus on the first laptop and BD internet security on the second, prior to an upgrade to a full licensed install of BD internet security on both.

  • Hello Roland,

On all of your computers please open BitDefender in *Expert Mode*,

choose the *Firewall *module and perform the following changes :

    1. Select the *Network *tab in the upper menu and click on the current

"*Network Type*", pull down the drop-down menu and select "*Trusted

Local*", *Stealth *to "*No*" and *Generic *to "*Yes*".

    2. In the *Zones *area please click on the "*+*" sign and add the IP

    address of the local device that you are trying to connect to (i.e. router);

    3. Please go to the *Status *tab, click on the "*Advanced Settings*"

button and check the option called "*Enable Internet Connection Sharing*" .

Last but not least I would recommend you to run THIS Uninstall tool to remove any traces of BitDefender Antivirus then re-install BitDefender Internet Security 2010.

    Regards,
