    Hi Dees68,

It's difficult to guess what could have happened on your system.

It could be a malware, a bug with another software, and of course Bitdefender's interference with software.

    1) Please give some details on your system. (XP Home? XP Pro? Vista? Seven? 32bits or 64 bits?, Linux or else? Do you use Internet explorer? Firefox? Chrome? Opera? else?

Every details will help BD technicians.

    2) What happened before it crashed?

    We should have only:

    one firewall

    one antivirus

one antispyware (well, err... I have two)

Windows firewall should be deactivated (Start config panel, sec center, settle security def deactivate

Is everything above already O.K ?

We'd better have the system updated (windows files updated. (check Bitdefender "vulnerabilities", sorry I don't know the english name)

Before it crashed, Bitdefender was updated? the scan did not notice anything fishy?

Do you suspect a malware ? (downloaded a crack or a keygen... opened a file emailed that could have been dubious... )

Bitdefender is as delicate as a Ferrari, but so is Windows that crashes from time to time because of a corrupted file (dll, etc.)

Do you have problems with other softwares?

    My advice:

    Download bitdefender software

(do not install it yet but keep it in your "download" file

    Shut down internet.

    check the points above.

use CCleaner to clean temp files (download it first and install it if you do not have it), check with the registry panel to clean files that should have been suppressed.

Remove completely Bitdefender, use Ccleaner to clean files that remain.

Check the hard disk and windows system. (accessories...)

Install the latest bitdefender software. It should indicate it is not up to date.

Go to internet (now I hope you have a firewall activated) update the software.

    What is the result?

You could check as well in the rules of firewall if you use a "box", you will find the "exe" file of your provider, it should be quoted "authorised".

    OK?

You could clean your hard disk, check if you find corrupted clusters too (it can't be useless to check).

Check your windows to be updated.

Sorry to shoot questions anywhere, but there are plenty of reasons for a software for breaking down.

Bd technicians will help you soon I guess.

    Good night,

    :)

  • Hello Dees68 (B)

    Regarding Firewall issue kindly check

    http://www.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/consumer/#391

Try to uninstall Bitdefender from its uninstall tool and not from Windows Add/Remove Programs.

    Download it from

    http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB333-en--How-to...itDefender.html.

After uninstalling Bitdefender from its tool, manually search traces of Bitdefender in Registry and System Drive (where you installed Bitdefender).

  • Hi Desiree,

First of all allow me to say thank you to ONT for the above answer. Indeed it's recommended to have BitDefender removed using THIS tool. Start the uninstall button then wait to be asked to restart the computer. Do so then reinstall BitDefender by using the download link below depending on the language and version of the software you want to install:

Internet Security 2010 32bits can be download from HERE - English version

Internet Security 2010 64bits can be download from: HERE

If you wish to install the French or Dutch version of the sofware please specify the language and the architecture (32bits or 64bits)of the computer are you using.

    Best regards,
