Uk Version After Upgrading Bdts V2009 Dutch To V2010
After recently upgrading BDTS v2009 (Dutch) to v2010, I have some problems, remarks and questions. During the last week(s), I've sent 3 messages to Support, using the e-mail ticket option at the web site. But the responses from Support (SAV-NL) are useless and rather annoying (up to now). So, I'm starting now to post my comments and problems in forum topics.
My OS is Windows XP Pro, SP3 Dutch.
Initial message, Ticket ID: 201007065000056
I'm using now for nearly one year BDTS v2009 (Dutch) and I'm satisfied about the product. A few days ago, I started (finally) the action to upgrade to v2010. Via 'My BitDefender', 'Download kit' and bitdefender_tsecurity.exe, I've downloaded the appropriate files bdts.msi and pluginsx86.exe. The upgrade process was rather long (with a few difficulties) and the language was a mix of UK and NL (as far as I remember, mainly UK). After finishing the upgrade process, the language was (I thought) Dutch. But after running an update (definitions, etc), the program/screens are now UK. How can I change that to my preferred language?
Note. The downloaded bdts.msi file contains Dutch words and phrases. So, it seems to be the right one. [end of initial message]
I've re-installed BDTS 2010 using/running bitdefender_tsecurity.exe (and thus, downloading bdts.msi and pluginsx86.exe again). I choose 'Repair' at the beginning (the other choice was 'Remove') and after the (mandatory) system restart at about 75% of the progress bar, the installation continues. After finishing, the system has to be restarted again and then BDTS is the wanted Dutch version. Then starting an 'Update', the screen shows (as before) a very large total (94159 KB) and when finished, the system should be restarted (unusual after updating the "definitions")!! And after rebooting, I see that my initial message was a correct description of a problem: BDTS is now UK.
Note. I don't understand that this is an unknown/unsolved problem. Version 2010 is released long ago and I suppose that I'm not the only user who upgrades the Dutch version 2009 to 2010. And a clean installation (after removing BDTS) will probably give the same problem, but I've not tested that.
But, of course, before running the update, I have copied the BDTS folder. And after booting the other OS (I've a dual-boot system), I replaced the \Enu folder by the one from the copy and now the program is Dutch again.
Note. Most (or all?) BitDefender files and folders are protected against viewing, editing or replacing. And switching languages is rather easy now by renaming the \Enu folders after booting the other OS.
Well, I thought only shortly that I had solved the problem (for me, not for other users). But when starting a new update, there came (after a while) a warning that the services were temporarily disabled and a little later, I had to restart the system. That the language after the reboot was UK again, was no surprise to me after such an update.
But apart from this problem, why is the BitDefender language situation not configured (programmed) the "usual" way? A lot of multi-language programs has one general installation package with optional language modules. And in the setup options, the user can easily switch between languages.

Hi again Chris,
Please try to reinstall as explained below and let me know if the issue still persist. Note that the below links are for the Dutch version of BitDefender:
Save the above tool , open it then start the uninstall process. Once it's complete it will ask you to restart the computer.
After restart save then install one of the files below according to your computer architecture:
BitDefender Total Security 32bits - Offline installation kit
BitDefender Total Security 2010 64bits - Offline installation kit
Let me know if the issue still persist.

Hello DanyDan
I'll consider that, but I don't like the extra work. Especially because my update procedure was the "regular" way. At http://www.bitdefender.com/nl/Downloads/ (via 'My BitDefender' or the link I got from SAV-NL or directly), the small file bitdefender_tsecurity.exe is downloaded. See 'Initial message' for more details.
Note. GetRight shows for this file: "Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2010 14:10:21 GMT" and Size:156.0 KB.
But with your link I get the following info for 'bitdefender_totalsecurity_2010_32b.exe':
Date: Thu, 13 May 2010 15:12:41 GMT and 162.80 MB
Why this difference in downloads? That is, at least, confusing for users.
And are that links to the Dutch version?
Is uninstalling first a must or a precaution?
I've installed v2010 as an upgrade (over v2009) as well as an update (over v2010, a re-install), and during both processing's there were no indications or warnings that I had to remove the current version.0 -

Hello DanyDan
I've run the re-install process and have now a correct Dutch version.
Some details and remarks.
The 'BitDefender_Uninstall_Tool.exe' processing was rather confusing and I was frightened that it went wrong. I saw many times the same operations with "Not Found" (and red cross), before finally the line "Uninstall finished" appeared. And despite of "Delete remaining registry values" at the end, there were still 363 entries with "BitDefender" left in the Registry. I've manually deleted all these entries (except the blocked LEGACY_SCAN keys).
Note. This is no problem or complaint, only a remark (and an example of the way I normally work).
After starting bitdefender_totalsecurity_2010_32b.exe, I've looked to (and copied) the files at the temporary location. File bdts.msi is exactly the same as the one I used before (see 'Repair' in first message) and file pluginsx86.exe is smaller (77.7 KB versus 84.5). But there were 4 other files: setup.exe, msiscan.exe, InstMsiA.Exe and WindowsInstaller-KB893803-x86.exe. The wizard was (mainly) in Dutch, so there was no doubt about the right (language) version.
One of the first steps during the wizard was very confusing and a few steps later the screen was mainly German (see images).
After this successful installation of BDTS 2010 Dutch, I've tried to find the reason of the now solved problem. Perhaps there was something wrong with the content of the 'Setup Information' folder. I think it was empty and contains now the (hidden) folder {028FF35A-9CFD-4653-9E5B-9667BD72D6AF} (with bdts.msi and pluginsx86.exe).But apart from this problem, why is the BitDefender language situation not configured (programmed) the "usual" way? A lot of multi-language programs has one general installation package with optional language modules. And usually as a setup option, the user can easily switch between languages.
Did you pass that to the "respectful department" too?
Normally I prefer Dutch, but during troubleshooting and reporting in English, it's very pretty when I can switch the program language. I'm doing this now by renaming the NLD and ENU folders (after booting the other OS).

A (minor) remark. BDTS has placed a lot of files with (mainly) the dat extension (names: as*, pc* and ph*) in the system32 folder. IMHO a rather "strange" location for BDTS data files.
A complaint or request about the location of the "Common" files.
When the program is installed at another partition, I don't like that the location of the Arrakis, Firewall, Threat, Update and Setup files is still at the OS-partition (\Program Filles\Common Files\BitDefender). These (lot of) data are program specific and not user dependent. So, why not at the program location (like the as2core data)?
This issue was a discussion in August 2009 with Support Ticket ID 200908061005233 and a few weeks ago I refreshed this discussion with Ticket ID 201007065000064. If you have access to that Ticket ID's, you can find there more details and some explanation for requesting this.0 -

Apart from 3 as*.* files, all other files are still 0 bytes. And most of that files are also available (with "real" sizes) in the subfolders of the as2core folder. After moving the files from \system32 and rebooting, only ashttpstats.csv was recreated there (contains no data, only a header line). And after a BDTS update, only the timestamp of that file is changed.0
