Searching The Kb For Virus Information

I was wondering if there was a good way for searching the virus database for specific viruses. I got a popup today on a .dll saying that it deleted it as a "Trojan.Generic.4544817", but when I go to search the KB for that virus, it ignores the "4544817" part saying that was "too generic", leaving me with 700 matches to wade through, 15 at a time per page.

Is there a better way to look this information up? I even tried using Google's site scoping feature ("Trojan.Generic.4544817" site:www.bitdefender.com), but it came up empty handed. :(

TIA if anyone has a better way of searching.

    Hi boulderfans,

Well... somebody else maybe. I put the following rules:

If a file is infected, -> destroy the malware,

if a file is suspect, -> quarantine! (and I send it to Bitdefender for analysis (I could avoid to destroy several "false positive" when BD mistrust several files from a company I know very well)

I'm afraid the word trojan.generic is... generic. It could be a malware... or not.

Maybe somebody else will find you the piece of info...

    good evening

    :)

  • Hello,

You can find the BitDefender Virus Encyclopedia HERE

If you wish additional information on a certain virus please save the infected file, pack it using a software such as WinRAR or WinZip with the password 'infected' then send it to us for further investigation.

You also can find removal tools for most of the major viruses released so far HERE
