[resolved]Deleting Bitdefender Backups?

Hello, so I have recently started to run out of space on my hard drive (500 gig drive) on my 3 year old rig. I have no idea where all the space was going until I discovered that I have a folder called c:\Bitdefender Backups\ that is taking up 165 gigs of space!!!!

The files are all .ebs files. Example: BitDefender_Backup(Incremental_Backup_2008_6_22-04_56_36).ebs

There is one file titled Bitdefender Backup.ecs but other than that there are just 300 or so of the ebs files.

So, my question: is it ok for me to delete all or some of these files? What are they used for? And why are there so goddam many of them????

Help please!!!!

    Sorry Sweeny03,

I have BD IS 2010 (without the safe option), not BD IT 2010, so I can't tell you what happened with your backup option (maybe you launched too many files and subfiles to be duplicated or saved in a directory?).

People who have your version could tell you what to do.

Please indicate details of your system: XP, Vista, Seven? it could help too...

    good evening,

    :)

I use Vista, and recently upgraded to BD 2010 from BD 2008. So it may have been the 2008 version that started the problem.

Regardless, is it ok for me to remove these backup files? Anyone???

  • Hello,

The .ebs files you mention are part of the backup that BitDefender is performing. I do believe that you are having several of these files because you have scheduled a backup job within BitDefender. It is safe to remove all those files if you do not wish to backup your computer using the BitDefender backup module.

Check and disable the scheduled backup as explained in the steps below:

    - double click on the BitDefender icon and open the Security Center

    - switch the GUI to Expert Mode from the Settings button

    - go to the Backup module

    - click on the Settings button

    - in the new window select and delete the scheduled job

    Kind regards,
