  • Hello,

    1. Open the BitDefender window, select Settings, then select the Expert mode in Switch UI and click on Apply and then on Ok.

    2. Go to the Update module and click on Settings;

    3. Select the boxes next to "Prompt before downloading updates" from Automatic and Manual Update Settings;

    4. Click on Apply;

    5. Restart the computer in Safe Mode.

    [How to restart in Safe Mode]

    - Restart the computer (Windows Start button - Turn Off - Restart);

    - Press the 'F8' key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load; you need to press 'F8' until you will be displayed a text menu;

    - Select 'SAFE MODE' in the text menu and press 'Enter'.

    - Wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation message; click 'OK' to acknowledge.

    3. Browse to the:

    'C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2009' folder and search for 'as2core.dll'.

    4. Please rename it with a name at your choice and restart the computer in Normal mode.

    5. Test to see if the issue still persist.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi pkardam,

    I apologize for my delay in responding to your post.

    Please note that this is a thread dedicated to 2009 products. Please be so kind as to describe the issue you have to BitDefender Forum -> English -> Home & Home Office Protection -> BitDefender 2011.

    Thank you.

    etc. etc.

    Are these instructions universal for anybody experiencing CPU hogging by vsserv.exe? I just attempted to open the Bitdefender2009 UI and got this error, "Bitdefender services are not responding". What now? I'll try rebooting, but your advice would be appreciated.

  • Hi Bobbo,

    Be kindly informed that we released the 2011 version and you have rights to upgrade for FREE to it. In order to solve the issue you contacted us, I would recommend you to use it. Before going through the upgrade process, I need to know if BitDefender 2011 is compatible with your system.

    If you want, you can send me a PM with a Screen Shot with your system configuration or just tell me your general hardware specs (CPU, RAM, System Type...).

    In order to see your system configuration, right click on the MyComputer icon present on your desktop and choose Properties.

    How to take a Screenshot:

    1. When the window is on the screen please press the "PrintScreen" key ("PrintScreen" is located at the top of the keyboard, at right. At this step we can not see anything, as the picture is copied into Windows's clipboard);

    2. Open a graphic editing application (We recommend using the standard Paint program, that comes with every Windows installation (Start > Program > Accessories > Paint));

    3. Paste the picture in a new Paint document;

    4. Save the file in JPEG format.

    I am waiting for your answer.

    Thank you!

  • I also had the problem of the vsserv.exe occupy 50% of the cpu and some memory occupancy. I changed the filename but the memory remains as2core.dll with values between 2,600 K and 20,000 K, this is normal?

    Another thing, after I changed the filename every time that I start the system I have 2 pending issues: 1º) Antispam is disabled; 2º Antiphishing Protection status is unavailable.

    I can fix the Antiphing Protection but the Antispam no.

  • Hi mikawins,

    Please see my comment for Bobbo and provide me with that informations.
