Hi ekikos,
BitDefender v10 cannot be set to automatically scan downloaded files (I don't know if BD v11 can do this).
But you should know that BitDefender's Realtime Protection is already scanning any files that are beeing downloaded (if you have the HTTP Traffic scan option enabled). Also, all files are scanned when you try to access them.
In other words, you are safe to use the downloaded files.
However, if you have any doubts, before opening an archive/packed file, just right-click on it and select BitDefender v10. Then, BitDefender will scan that file and it will alert you if it's infected.

i have noticed that there is an option in msn messenger to select a program that will scan the files for you as they are completed. tools>options>file transfer. is there a way to input a bfd exe file that will run when the download is completed?

Hi ekikos,
As I already told you, there's no way (as far as I know) to add BitDefender as a virus scanner to any of such programs (MSN, download managers, etc...). BitDefender already scans the files while they are downloaded (with the Scan HTTP Traffic option) and when you try to access them.
You can ask the same question on Live Assistance (Technical support section), but I believe you'll get the same answer.
