Keeps Showing New Network Connection

Options

Hello,

Purchased BitDefender Internet Security 2011 for my Windows7 64 bit laptop last week. Everything seems to be working fine but for one annoying thing. Every time I start my computer the pop up for New Network Connection shows up, even though I am working from my home, and from the same home wireless connection. I keep entering the home option (vs the public) and clicking on the box below to remember my selection. Problem is it seems it is not remembering my selection. Is there a way to disable this pop up or question from BitDefender?

Thanks.

  • I am having the same problem on two different versions of Vista on 32 Bit machines. It has only occurred in the last week or so.

  • Exact same problem here Danku, the problems with BDTS2011 are starting to get on my wick, you will notice with this also, if you have allocated specific IP addresses in the firewall settings, they all disappear on the next reboot. I am sick of BDTS2011 not doing as it is told ie. virus scan schedule not running when is is supposed to and running when it isn't supposed to, update schedule being told not to update for every two hours, I have had updates 10 minutes apart!!! and the list goes on (sorry for getting off topic) but this is just one of many ugly little bugs developing out of BD

  • Just a note to provide addtional information.

This problem seems to occur only with wireless connections. I normally use a cable connection as disabling wireless improves battery life on my laptop. I turned my wireless on a couple of days ago and forgot to disable it again. When I started my machine the new network dialogue opened and despite checking the remember this connection box the dialogue opened every time I started my machine. My wife has had the same problem for a couple of weeks. She always uses wireless.

I have also noticed that if the wireless is enabled and I go through the new connection dialogue my wired connection changes from Home/Office to Public without a dialogue. If I start the machine with wireless disabled the wired connection is correctly allocated Home/Office.

  • I have had this happen to me also. I have mine set up for home network and it changes to public and also puts me in stealth mode all by itself!

  • Hello,

The issue you reported is known and we are currently close in releasing a fix for it. Indeed the issue only occurs with certain Wireless Network adapters that makes it a little more difficult to resolve.

Dangermouse: if you have troubles with BitDefender why don't you start a topic ? That's why I am here, to try to answer all your questions and queries and clarify any issues you may have with BitDefender.

I don't/won't start a new topic because the only solution you guys seem to come up with is to send the support tool attachments and then we never hear back, I experience most of the same issues as every other complaint on this forum, I have requested help in the past through the New Zealand website (their website java does'nt even work) and all I get is 'you're best to reinstall the software'...how many times do I have to do this to fix the multitude of issues that BD is presenting lately? Here are just a few examples of my issues on both a Win7 platform and Win XP....scans starting when told not to. Firewall not holding settings. Updates happening when told not to (today alone my computer has been on for 10 hours and it has done 40 updates!!! not bad considering I have told BDTS2011 not to update for every 2 hours!.) email downloads time out because BD is scanning and then I get multiple emails of the same thing. Sometimes when opening Outlook Express, the antispam bar doesn't show up. System is unusable when updating. Setting up home network doesn't work after the next reboot ie the other computers disappear out of the list even though they are turned on so it can't see the other PC's. When I do want a scan for viruses etc often says it encountered a problem(which it does not clarify what that problem is) and asks me to restart the scan because it has'nt completed properly. I have got a business to run, it is not up to me to be BD's experimental tool, and before you ask, all my PC's out perform any of your minimum requirements. I cannot be bothered mucking about trying to resolve issues with 3rd party software, all PC's had completely clean installs of BDTS2011 even from previous versions of BD.

I don't envy an antivirus/malware writters job because if it wasn't for ###### out there with nothing better to do than lunch other peoples computers wanking on how clever they are with viruses I wouldn't be writting this reply. But I will say this, if something does'nt happen in the next 256 days of my subscription to improve the stability and functionality of BDTS2011 I will walk, and no it won't be to Nortons or McAfee.

It's not only wireless connections that do this. I get this and do not use wireless at all, infact it's turned off in my Netgear DG834GT.

You'll notice the outstanding support we're all getting from the team....NOT, what a joke BD is turning out to be, just reading through the more up to date posts and it would appear this is quite the opposite of a support forum. BD's wheels appear to be falling off, for what used to be one of the better antivirus software around has been bought to its knees by an incompetent 'support team'. Let me tell you my definition of support...people that fix the problems people are experiencing. We are what they call paying beta testers. GET YOUR S**T SORTED BD, people are going to walk!!....here's a new one today...my BD is in the middle of a deep scan, but there is no way of stopping it and I have'nt asked for it to run!!!!!

Couldn't agree more. I've now logged a formal complain with BD due in part to shoddy software but more importantly a lack of any form of support.

The latter I find totally unacceptable, the former I can appreciate things do go wrong but the timescales we are all looking at with no formal response is damned disgusting.

I've already recommended this software to other people, something I now regret and by way of apology have advised them not to install it, I'm now convinced that BD may infact stand for Bloody Disgrace!! <img class=" /><img class=" /><img class=" />

  • Well we're now into Febuary without a fix for this.. I haven't replyed to this tread before because I figured someone knew there is a problem and it would be fixed....

So I have a HP DV7 with window 7 32bit. I have multiple networks which I connect to at different locations thrught wireless.

How long before we have a reply on the timing of this fix... where is it in the list of priorities of fixes. How long before your firewall will remember the setting for networks and allow me to print without having to edit the firewall setting each time...If it continues much longer I'll disable this on and find something which works

I have the same problems with New Network Connection alert showing up regardless I check Remember Settings.

I just installed BD Total Security 2011 trial version and I can say that I am really unhappy with this behavior. I DO NOT have wireless connection. My connection is PPPoE (with dynamic IP) and each time I start the computer, BD alerts me both for Local Area Connection adapter, but for Internet Connection (my PPPoE connection) too.

Why is so hard to make that crappy software to remember the settings? I read the Help, I searched the internet and finally I got here, where everybody seems to be ###### off by this issue.

    PLEASE FIX ASAP !

Thanks BitDefender! (I just hope you will fix this before my 30 days of trial are ended)

  • well... I guess I was waiting for an answer...

  • Hello everyone,

Please read the topic below and confirm in THAT topic if the issue is resolved after replacing the two files in Windows Safe Mode.
