Bd Vs Malware Bytes Detections...

Options

Hi

I'm currently on my second week trial period of BD2011. I also have malware bytes running with protection enabled. I've notice that while malware detects many "riskwares" and blocks some unsafe access to internet sites, and malicious programs (mostly keygens of warez software), BD2011 does not detect any of those as Trojans/viruses. on some occations, it is the other way around. BD detects a Trojan, while MB does not.

So what gives? does this means that no product is 100% effective, and I must use them both? Also, on my other machine I am using Microsoft Security Essentials. i remember it reported a file downloaded from the internet as a Trojan while both BD and malware byte found this file to be safe... Go figure... It seems as you cannot trust any protection solution..

What do you think?

Thanks

If you decide to run on a big booze an uneven country road at 120 mph at night, the best safety belt will not save your life.

However it is true safety belts help to reduce the death toll...

The best anti malware program will be found between the chair and the keyboard. (The worst too... unfortunately :P )

So don't talk about cracks and warez and unknown free programs found here and there... just to test your software and complain about free/commercial anti malware soft, that's silly.

    Regards,

    :)

There are the things which can be taken into account for selecting any security suite.

    1) Detection Rates

    2) Protection Technologies e.g Signature Based, Heuristics/Behavioral Scanning etc.

    3) Protection Features e.g Firewall, Antispam, Parental Control, Antirootkit,Privacy Control, Rescue CD etc

    4) Ability to remove infection traces completely

    5) False Positives

    6) Additional Features offered e.g Tuneup, Backup, Vulnerability, Encryption etc

    7) Self Protection feature and ability to install, if the system is already infected badly.

    8) Technical Support

There can be more things added, but by considering above said, you can eliminate the alternatives, but however no Antivirus solution is perfect giving you 100% protection. Also it is better that the detections should be with the optimum protection settings of the products to be compared.

And if Bitdefender fails to detect the suspicious files website, read this post

Some more points to be considered

    9) Resource Utilization (Not resouce hogging)

10)Small Installtion Footprints i.e occupy less space after installtion.
