Bitdefender Slows My Laptop Down Until I Can't Use It!

When I first boot up my laptop it's absolutely fine. But the more I use the internet the slower my laptop becomes.

I notice a program called vsserv.exe is taking up to 50% of my CPU. My internet takes up to 50% of my CPU so I find that my laptop is almost always using 100% CPU all of the time.....just for browsing on the internet.

I cannot run any other programs when I am on the internet.

This seems to be a real flaw to this antivirus.

Can somebody suggest a solution?

I want a refund from Bitdefender if there is no solution......I wish I had chosen Bulldog or Kapersky now!!

  • Hello,

Can you please post your PC details ? How much RAM and what processor is the PC using ? What Operating System ? What PC architecture ?

Please read the article below for information on how to post a Support request:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?act...f=201&id=18

I understand your frustration however I can't help you if I don't understand the issue and for that I need details. Posting correctly in the first place can only save us time and make things less frustrating :)

To speed things up even more, I kindly ask you to follow the steps below and then send me the generated log file, as follows:

    1. Download this file:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/files/Knowledge...ile/sysdump.exe

    2. Locate and open 'Sysdump.exe'

    3. A command prompt window will appear on your screen. Please note that the information gathering process can take several minutes therefore please wait until the window disappear by itself.

    4. The result will be the file called 'SYSDUMP.TAR'

    5. When you have the sysdump.tar please upload it HERE

    6. Include a DETAILED description of the issue you encounter: reproduce the steps you take until the issue occur and, if possible, enclose a screenshot of any error message you receive.

    7. Send me a PM (Private Message) with the download link and one for the topic you started.

    Thank you for your reply.

I have followed your instructions and have provided the information you have requested:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3 (32-bit)

    Intel Core Duo T2400 @ 1833MHz

    Physical Memory:2048MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )

Video Card :NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M

With regards to your instructions about creating a file called 'SYSDUMP.TAR' I have uploaded it and sent you a link via a private message.

Is there any other information you require?

I look forward to your response.

  • Hi,

Got the log file. Am currently analyzing it, you will have my answer via both email and forum in the next 24 hours.

    Kind regards,

  • Update:

The analysis is now complete with the following results: another security solution installed and enabled on the PC. You have PC Wizard 2010.1.96 installed with:

    - pcwizard.dll;

    - \??\C:\Program Files\CPUID\PC Wizard 2010\pcwiz_x32.sys;

You will have to uninstall PC Wizard from Add/Remove Programs in Windows Control Panel then restart the PC. All BitDefender drivers look correctly installed so, as a last step, a BitDefender repair should resolve the slowdown.

    - Click on the START menu button

    - Go to All Programs -> BitDefender 2011 -> Repair or Remove

    - Follow the on-screen instructions and restart the computer each time you are requested to.

    - Test to see if the issue still replicates.

    Looking forward to your answer!

  • Hi,

I have now uninstalled bitdefender as instructed in you Private Message instructions to me.

I have also sent you a link to the sysdump.tar file that you ask me to generate - after the uninstall.

My laptop is now without any BitDefender antivirus, so I have temporarily installed free antivirus software.

However, I would prefer to have the bitdefender software re-installed and working (without the problems I had before), as I already paid 1 year subscription.

If you don't feel that I can have bitdefender running smoothly on my system then I would like to have a refund please.

I look forward to your reply.

  • Hello,

You still have the Update registry key for BitDefender present in your PC:

    Update Server

    │├ Type REG_DWORD 0x00000010 (16)

    │├ Start REG_DWORD 0x00000003 (3)

    │├ ErrorControl REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

    │├ ImagePath REG_EXPAND_SZ C:\Program Files\Common Files\BitDefender\BitDefender Arrakis Server\bin\arrakis3.exe

    │├ DisplayName REG_SZ BitDefender Update Server v2

    │├ ObjectName REG_SZ LocalSystem

    │└+Security

You will need to manually delete in Windows Safe Mode the following key:

    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Update Server

[how to start Windows in Safe Mode]

If Windows is the only operating system installed on your computer, start into Windows Safe Mode with these instructions:

    * If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power

    * Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.

    * Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

    * Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.

    * Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

    * When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Restart the PC and clean it using CCleaner that can be downloaded from:

    http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup306.exe

Install it then perform BOTH registry and temporary files clean-up then restart the PC again.

IMPORTANT: run the CCleaner clean-up AFTER you remove the other security solution you have installed. Furthermore, make sure that you use the specific uninstall tool to remove the other antivirus program. If you don't have the tool, tell me the name of the software and I will provide you with the uninstall tool for it.

Proceed with the installation of BitDefender and let me know if the issue still persist.

    Best regards,

    Danny M.
