[resolved]Internet Slow Down Bd 2011

I purchased BD Antivirus Pro a week ago. I had Avira Antivirus Premium which I uninstalled. I had no internet slow down with it. I had no slow down at first with BD but now it is causing a slow down with the internet. If I change it to permissive the slow down goes away. I have no other maleware protection runnning in realtime. I do have Malewarebytes anti-maleware and Superantispyware installed but do not run in realtime. I did run the support tool and saved the file. I am running Win7 64bit and IE9. My system is Asus P67 Sabertooth MB with 8GB memory and a Intel i7 2600k 3.4 cpu. Only the browser is slow and the rest of the system is fine.

  • Hello,

First and foremost I would like to welcome you on our Forums ! Please first try the steps below and let me know if the issue is resolved or persist:

    1. Open BitDefender in Expert View (Go to Options in the upper part of the Window, select Expert View and click OK)

    2. Go to the Antivirus tab.

    3. Click on the Custom Level button, uncheck the Scan web (HTTP) traffic and check if the issue still occur.

    4. Disable the Search Advisor module and check if the issue still occurs.

    5. If it does, Disable the Antiphishing module on that browser and check if the issue still occurs.

    6. If it still does, click on Advanced Settings and disable the AVC module and IDS module (by default IDS should be disabled).

Please let us know if any of these steps solved your issue.

I will also need few info from you in order to better understand the issue:

    - how you uninstalled Avira ?

    - do you have Malwarebytes registered or are you using a free version WITHOUT a serial number added ?

    - since you have the SupportTool already please upload it HERE or HERE then send me a PM (Private Message) with the download link.

    Kind regards,

  • Haven't posted here before but spotted my problem and saw your list of things I mostly hadn't tried yet, so I started down the list. Wonderful! Immediate improvement in online speed. Since I'm stuck with an old (and already slow enough) computer, every little bit helps. Thanks, Daniel.

  • Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.101209-1647)

    System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard

    Processor: Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80GHz (2 CPUs)

I was running Bitdefender 2009 until a few days ago when I received the message "Scan failed to execute" or timed out when the daily scan and manual scan failed to work. Message “The scanning process was not started in the required time interval”

I used your BitDefender_Uninstall_Tool.exe to uninstall in normal mode and safe mode. Then installed BitDefender pro 2011

It installed ok but I found slowdown problems even after I disabled antispam, AVC and IDS. I am running Firefox 3.6.17. I use a photo catalogue program that needs small pop-up boxes to change directory names etc .. this would show (under BitD 2011) empty white browser which takes some time to fill. I also play WOW and even under Game Mode the leaving one character to move to another took 4 times as long as it should making u think your screen had frozen. Even going to my routers web page - too look at sync speed – was extremely slow.

I have used the uninstall tool again and gone back to Bitdefender 2009. Fortunately I can now scan and all the slow downs have stopped. However I am worried that there will be slowdown problems if I am forced to go to BitDefender pro 2011 because 2009 is no longer supported.

    Hello,

Daniel: you should use an older version such as 2008 or 2009 on a slow and older PC. You may not have all the new features that 2011 is offering however the virus definition is the same therefore your PC will be protected :)

Moemoff: Can you please explain what you mean by:

I am worried that there will be slowdown problems if I am forced to go to BitDefender pro 2011 because 2009 is no longer supported.

    - the issue you encountered (the slowdown) was due to an incomplete uninstall of the previous version of BitDefender;

    - you have a quite good PC, is a shame to waste its performance with XP, I would recommend you to use a newer Windows version such as Windows 7.

    Thanks!

  • Daniel - just as a follow-up comment, last year, DanyDan suggested I install BDAV 2009 on my old IBM ThinkPad T21 which I did. It has been running fine with this older version and the laptop has been kept virus free. :) You can see the full system specs of the T21 at the link in my signature below. Give it a try.

Well I am trying BD again. I have uninstalled Avira and used there registry cleaner. Also uninstalled SuperAntispyware and MalewareBytes AntiMaleware. So far no slowdown on the internet. I will keep you posted if it starts to slowdown.
