A/v Preventing A Back Up

XP Home SP2

Bit Defender Int Sec 2008

I have 2 External back up drives.

I am trying to make a back up of my back up - from one hard drive to an new one.

The Antivirus preventing some files from copying - such as a old anti-spam tool I have. So most of the conflicts seem to be "security" related and that BD thinks I am installing something I shouldn't.

SO - whats the work around?

Do I turn off the A/V during the back up process?

  • Hello sethm,

What exactly is the error? Does BD alert you that some files are infected, or you just get some Access denied errors (without actually BD alerting anything)?

  • yes - the BD A/V is saying there is a virus.

The saved items are down loaded programs from known sources.

    Then there are two possibilities:

    1. either the files were infected
    2. either this is a false positive
Either case, put the reported files in a ZIP file protected by the password infected and upload them in a new thread in the Malware section. BD Virus Analysts will take a look at them and, if necessary, they'll remove detection.
