Internet Slow Down - Busy Line
Sometimes when I surf the web or try streaming a video, I notice a dramatic slow down of speed. I checked the bitdefender firewall settings tab to find out that the bytes received per second are near my bandwidth cap even when I have nothing else open. However none of the processes under the Activities tab show much activity.
I want to know if there's a way to check what is clogging up the line. The processes does not add up to the amount of data received. Many gigs of data are received after a while but not stored in hard drive. AV scans doesn't turn up anything.

Welcome to the forum.
Just as a test, try temporarily turning off these 2 BD modules (if they are currently enabled):
1. Antivirus-->Shield-->Custom Level-->Scan Web (http) traffic
2. Antivirus-->Shield-->Antiphishing (uncheck all boxes)
Post back with your results.

This happened to my main pc today, where I have always had scan web traffic and anti phishing turned off.

Logging off or putting the computer to sleep did not help. Bytes received resumes after logging back in. I have to shutdown the computer for the network activity to stop. No processes are shown to have much activity so I can't block whatever is using the line.

Hello,
In order to further investigate this issue, please follow the steps below:
1. Open the BitDefender Security Center, select "Options", then select the "Expert View".
2. Go to the "Update" module and click on "Settings";
3. Select the boxes next to "Prompt before downloading updates" from Confirm Update and Manual Update Settings;
4. Click on Apply;
5. Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
[How to restart in Safe Mode]
- Restart the computer (Windows Start button - Turn Off - Restart);
- Press the 'F8' key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load; you need to press 'F8' until you will be displayed a text menu;
- Select 'SAFE MODE' in the text menu and press 'Enter'.
- Wait while Windows loads in Safe Mode; this process ends with a confirmation message; click 'OK' to acknowledge.
6. Browse to:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder.
7. Locate file "bdfm.sys"and rename it into "bdfm.sy_";
8. Restart the computer in Normal mode;
9. Once the product will want to Update, please make sure to select only the Virus Signature option and not the Product Update one, as that will replace the file you renamed in Safemode.
10. Check if the issue still occurs.
NOTE:
If you are not seeing the file extensions please go to Start -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab -> uncheck the option "Hide extensions for known file types".
We are very sorry for any inconvenience that we may have created and we rest at your disposal for further information.
We are looking forward to hearing from you with the test results!

Hi there,
I am having exactly the same problems and I tried all of the above. Nothing worked.
The internet speed just dies. I can fix it be releasing/renewing the IP but it lasts only for about 1 or 2 minutes. I'm usually downloading at an average speed of 650kb/s and with this problem it goes down to around 30kb/s. It happens with FileGet but it is in the white list. Furthermore, it then affects the general speed of the connection i.e. not just FileGet.
I am using BD total security 2011.
Any ideas?
Thanks and regards.0 -

update: I have uninstalled Bitdefender and everything worked perfectly, so we can assume that this was 100% caused by the software.0 -
Hello,
metaphor:
First of all please allow me to apologize for the delay in responding to your topic. Do you have any other security solutions installed ? When does the connection dies ? When you watch a video, when you visit a certain website / download something ? Did you used a previous version of BitDefender ?
calab: any news ? Is the issue resolved after following the steps above ?0
