Incredibly Slow Internet Speed After Recent Installation Of Bitdefender Antivirus Pro 2011
I am currently experiencing an incredibly high amount of latency after installing BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011. In the past I have used Norton Antivirus 2011, and then decided to change to BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 as it offered a better deal at the time of renewal. I removed Norton Antivirus 2011 by using their own official removal tool, thus ensuring that there are no remnants of the programs left behind to interfere with the installation of BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 and subsequent usage.
However after installing BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011, I am experiencing internet slowdown that was not present while I was running Norton Antivirus 2011. This slowdown is severe to the point where many internet pages will simply not load at all and instead time out. I have checked to ensure that no programs that I have in the background are attempting to download without my knowledge, and I have also followed the common advice of disabling ACV and IDS as well as adding an exception for my internet browser and other internet related programs such as Steam, IM programs and the like.
I have run two seperate scans with speedtest.net to establish the current state of my internet connection, one with BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 enabled but with ACV and IDS disabled as suggested, and one without BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 running at all. You can find the results below.
With BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 running.
Without BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 running.
I am currently operating with the following hardware:
Windows 7 (64 bit)
Quad-Core processor
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
4094 Mb RAM
750GB HDD (with 500GB remaining)
I hope I can get some advice soon as to how to resolve this problem, as so far the common answers seemed to have little to no effect and the problem continues to plague me.
Thanks,
Hyperviper.

Forgive me for posting twice in succession, but I'm updating this thread to state that the problem is now becoming an intermittent issue. At random intervals my internet connection will suddenly spike to unbearable levels, and remain as such for a random period of time. And then just as quickly as the problem began, my connection will stabilize back to its original state. However again after a random amount of time the issue will start all over again, repeating the cycle. I have disabled the modules that have been commonly suggested to fix the issue such as disabling AVC and IDS, and yet the problem persists.
During these periods I have checked that I have no background programs currently downloading, and have found that this is the case which leads me to believe that it is BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 that is causing these large amounts of internet "lag". I am further led to believe this as I have never suffered from this problem in the past while I had Norton Antivirus 2011 installed, and the problem only began as soon as I installed BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011.
Another reason that I am led to believe that it is down to BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 is because I currently have a computer that utilizes the wireless capability of my router to access the internet, and that computer never suffers from these slowdown issues. I have ensured that this computer is not accessing the internet in any shape or form when I am using the computer that has BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 installed, and still the slowdown issues continue to be prevalent.
As previously said, I hope I can get some help resolving this problem and that I can continue to use BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011 happily and without any technical hitches.
Thanks,

Hello Hyperviper,
Welcome on our Forums! Please make the following test and let me know if the issue still occurs:
- open BitDefender -> Antivirus -> Custom Level -> disable Scan web (HTTP) traffic;
- test to see if the issue still occurs;
- open BitDefender >> Firewall and switch it off for 5 minutes;
- test to see if the issue still occurs;
Go to the Firewall module >> Network and post a screenshot of the settings you are currently using.
Looking forward to your answer!0 -
Hi DanyDan,
Thank you for the reply. I have disabled the "Scan web (HTTP) traffic" option, and so far there has been no change and the problem persists.
I however cannot follow through with the other two suggestions, as I am unable to locate the firewall option within the program. I'm most likely missing something, but until I locate the option I cannot perform the suggested options. I have included a picture of BitDefender Antivirus Pro 2011, and how it currently displays ( http://i.imgur.com/Pn9Qj.png ). If you could point me in the right direction as to where to locate the firewall option, that would be great.
Thanks,

Hello,
I am truly sorry for the misunderstanding. The BitDefender Antivirus Pro do not have a Firewall module. Follow the steps explained in THIS article then send me a PM with the generated log file along with a detailed description of the issue you encounter and the link to this topic.
