    Kind regards,

  • I am having problems with installing Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 on my machine.

Originally I am running Bitdefender IS-2011... I am having issues with it NOT running scheduled tasks or running scheduled tasks at RANDOM times. Somewhere in this forum (or another), I saw that the suggested solution was to upgrade to the current version of the product and the scheduler problem is resolved. The instructions from your website say that it will install over the old one, and recognize the license key and complete normally. The installation failed. I had to run the bd-uninstall tool. There were still tons of references to "\Program Files\Bitdefender" all over the registry after waiting for the uninstall program to finish. So I manually removed every item reference and appropriate key and took backups of the registry to give me better restore points. This takes hours. I did a clean scan of the registry to ensure that there were no remaining references to the product directories and then removed all of the leftover files from the "Documents and Settings" folder under my userid and under the "All Users" folder. Removed all of the BD-files under the "Program Files" directory. Took another restore point.

I am running Windows XPpro SP3, and I again tried to reinstall BD-internet security 2012 - both from the full downloaded bitdefender_is_2012_32b.exe file and from the online loader: bitdefender_isecurity2012_setup.exe on separate attempts, same results... it will initialize, scan my critical system files, download it's components and start the install... it locks up at 46% complete on the install in a "user-wait" within the active thread of the installer task. I tried inspecting the subtask further with Microsoft Process Explorere... but could only find a couple of references to DLL files that were present under IE7 but removed when IE8 came out... WER.DLL (error reporting) and IEHSHIMS.DLL both have similar messages posted by bdinstall subtask components. "System cannot find the file specified." "Warning: At least one delay-load dependency module was not found." These files are not used in WinXP but are used in Vista and perhaps Win7. The installer should ignore these files and continue. I cannot find any other issues. Repeated attempts all STOP with the same conditions. I cannot install your product although I have a valid license key. The uninstall program does not work, or works miserably... it leave hundreds of references in the registry and takes FOREVER to run. Sometimes it will not delete all of the files (due to open handles or locks) and this is how I found the two installer modules that referenced the WEP.DLL, etc. Deleted everything and started over about 6 times. Each time I cleaned up a little more of the mess. Eventually I admitted defeat and reinstalled the original program Bitdefender Internet Security 2011.

I think that I will wait for you guys to get a standalone installer functional for BD-2012 before I try this again... I can't waste another 12-hours (and no sleep) with bad installation software. <img class=" />

    Hello,

With all due respect but you are not installing it correctly nor using the correct installation kit. Where have you seen instructions to use an offline installation kit for 2012 considering that this type of kit is not available ?

Furthermore I do believe that your PC do not have all the required software installed (see system requirements) therefore the installation can't finish.

Have you run the installation kit directly or you saved it first on your PC ? I have created a ticket on your behalf where we will troubleshoot this issue and find a resolution for it after analyzing the logs you'll generate as explained in my email I've just sent you.

    Ticket ID: 201108131001645.

Please reply via email with the log file and as soon as the analysis will be complete you will have my answer.

    Best regards,

    Best regards,

Again with no disrespect to you or your statements... I have used the instructions as given in this link from your website:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/support/How-to-...r-2012-711.html

I have followed the process to the letter, within the limitations imposed by the installation program seizing up at 46% complete.

There are no logs created by this process that I can tell, and certainly no messages are presented by the installation process

whereby one could determine the nature of the fault. After much consideration... I have determined that since the re-installation

of version IS-2011 is working (although the scheduler is a bit wonky and I now have the appearance of vsserv.exe using 100%

CPU) I think that it is impractical to attempt another installation of version 2012 at this time. I am a studio producer and have

clients waiting for work that should have been done while I was recursively installing my antivirus software. Due to the demands

that are placed on me at this time, I cannot set up the special test conditions and spend another day or two collecting audit trails.

I have what appears to be a solution for the 100% CPU issue with vsserv.exe, but I am not ready to tackle another installation of

IS-2012 at this time. I will no doubt revisit this sometime in the future, but I still have about 600 days active on my current license.

Since the primary requirement of any antivirus software is to catch virus files, I will consider that the current software is performing

the majority of the required functions that it should perform and consider myself lucky.

If my situation changes in the the future and my clients do not want their work done on time and within reasonable costs, I will add

the additional staff or take the time to perform any requirements to provide the forensic materials for an adequate investigation.

It seems that although you assert that I may not have the correct software environment ... "Furthermore I do believe that your PC

do not have all the required software installed (see system requirements) therefore the installation can't finish." Please note that

it apparently had adequate software installed to back out the partial install of IS-2012 and support the full re-installation of IS-2011.

All of the files and instructions were downloaded from your website as indicated in the How-to-install articles mentioned previously.

You have been most kind to look into this matter. Your response of course is optional. I have a functional Bitdefender-IS-2011.

[Just in case you were curious about the fix...]

By the way... the incident that was causing vsserv.exe to go from 50% to near 100% on my current process list seems to be some

incompatibility between Bitdefender Internet Security 2011's vsserv.exe and a program by Dillobits called YATS32.exe version 8.7.56

a time-synchronization utility. During system initialization, Bitdefender is loaded first and is up and running when YATS32.exe (the LAST item

loaded in sequence) starts up. On several other of our machines, there is no conflict... on this one for some reason, as soon as YATS32

creates a sub-task to operate its scheduler, vsserv.exe goes to 100% CPU and stays there. If I KILL the process tree for YATS32.exe,

then the CPU utilization for vsserv.exe returns to normal. I can obviously live without running the YATS32.exe program as there are a

gazillion and one of free programs that perform the same function as the purchased and licensed program from Dillobits.com - so I deleted

it from the system and I am now using another utility which works just fine. ;)

The way that this became evident was when I noticed that YATS32 no longer created a shell-notification icon in the system tray area of the

XP desktop. There was no window associated with either the main task or the sub-task. This started after I reinstalled Bitdefender Internet

Security 2011. Just to be sure I uninstalled and then reinstalled YATS32 with the same exact results.

I have a work-around that seems to supply the same functionality at no additional cost, so I am good with it.

Life is full of mysteries... there is only so much time.

The software is called YATS32.EXE and it is from Dillobits software. It performs the simple function of synchronizing the PC clock

with a tier-2 internet clock standard site. You can use the following URL to download a free 30-day version of the software which

should be ok for your evaluation. Caveat: you may or may not be able to reproduce the same 100% CPU with vsserv.exe as was

experienced on my machine, because this is the current version of the product. I was using one that is perhaps a couple of years

older. I cannot give you a sample of the program that I have because it is licensed software... you will have to use this link:

    http://www.dillobits.com/yats32.html

As far as the steps involved... the two programs, Bitdefender and Dillobits Yats32 simply have to exist in the same machine. There

were no other special conditions that I can tell, however it may be impossible to duplicate all of the other aspects of my current

machine environment. Yats32 (Yet Another Time Synchronizer 32bits) operates as a common system background task and is loaded

into the tray on the start-bar when Windows XP starts up.

The workaround that I used was to simply remove YATS32.EXE from my system. The CPU utilization dropped to near zero, again...

and the scheduler within Bitdefender Internet Security 2011 has operated normally ever since. I am not prepared to attempt to reinstall

Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 at this time. I will deal with that later. Thanks.

PS: The version that I had that caused vsserv.exe to loop was YATS32 8.7.56 ... the current version on the website is 9.0.8

    Dillobits Software, Inc.

  • Hi Fender,

I understand that the issue does not occur using BitDefender Internet Security 2011 and YATS 9.0.8 ? Does the issue occur with YATS 9.0.8 and BitDefender 2012 ?

Please send me a support tool log file generated as explained in my email.

    Looking forward to your answer!

    Regards,

  • Update: Please install the latest version of YATS as the issue does not reproduce with YATS 9.0.8.

Can you please update YATS to its latest version and let me know if the issue still reproduce on your end ?

    Thank you!
