Bitdefender Total Security Slowing Down Internet Browsing

As the title says, I was going to trial BitDefender Total Security for a week and see how it went but immediately after installing it my web surfing dropped to less than a crawl. Is there a reason why browsing speed wasn't given significant emphasis in this product version?
