Bd Is Stopping Program Installations?

I've been having trouble recently with Programs not having their icons appear in the Start Menu (they're either blank rectangles, or, if they're in a folder, the folder is blank). Some of my most recent attempts to install programs have even failed altogether; I've been wracking my brains trying to figure out the problem (I'm more of a Mac guy but I have a 64bit W7 hp laptop).

Someone suggested to me that my security software might be preventing the installation of programs, has anything in BD IS 2011 been automatically updated that would do something like this?
