System Not Restarting After Installation?

I had the problem of my 32-Bit Windows XP Laptop being unable to restart after installing Bitdefender Total Protection 2012. It would attempt to restart, and the Windows XP splashscreen would appear, but after a couple seconds, the startup "progress" bar under the XP logo would slow to a crawl, and the system would absolutely NOT restart. I tried a number of different things, including using my Windows XP disk to bring up it's recovery console (actually just a dos prompt) and using CHKDSK /R was able to see and repair what appeared to be errors on the C:\ drive. I was able then, to restart windows and bring up the desktop, but then the Bitdefender tray icon would go gray and Bitdefender virus detection (VSSERV.exe) service was not started or even listed in the services directory. What I found out finally was that for some reason, the windows firewall had NOT been disabled as it should have been. As soon as I manually disabled it, I was able to use the Bitdefender repair or remove icon to repair Bitdefender, then restart. I also chose Windows to restart, instead of allowing Bitdefender to do it for me. VOILA' It Works!

I hope this helps any of you out there, (including you bitdefender support techs) to solve your problem. And to ask Bitdefender why Total Security 2012 did NOT disable the windows firewall, as all my bitdefender products had done in the past.

Thanks all! and GOOD LUCK!
