Problem With Certificates Issued By Bitdefender

Using AV pro 2012 on Windows XP. While trying to address a problem with system slowdown I followed tech support suggestion to disable and reenable Bitdefender options one at a time to try to isolate problem (separate discussion). After I did that, I found that both Thunderbird and Firefox began prompting me for security exceptions for certificates. I was required to download Bitdefender root cert and restart mail and browser, however several things still don't work because of problems with certificates. For example, one exception is for the yahoo mail server (pop.att.yahoo.com) and the certificate is issued by Bitdefender Personal CA.Net-Defender. The program I use for a password vault will not work at all.

Something I did in Bitdefender caused this change in behavior, but I'm not sure what and not sure how to undo it. Thanks for any help.

  • I replied to ticket 201112071004081 on this problem 4 days ago and told them to escalate it to a supervisor because I'm so disgusted, still haven't heard a word. I was given a free year's subscription because I had so much trouble installing AV pro 2011 and then it intermittently caused bad slowdowns. Then I had so many problems with BD being unable to run they told me to upgrade to 2012. That affected the performance of my system so bad I couldn't use it. While trying to diagnose that problem I encountered the problem below. I've removed this product, I'll never use it again in my life. I've wasted more time installing, upgrading and debugging this product than it would take me to clean up a virus infection every week.

I'm having this issue as well. It's causing my web pages not to render properly. CS says our computers are causing this issue.

  • Hello guys :)

Please right click on BitDefender icon from system tray(the "B" icon) and choose "Show". In the main window, click on "Settings". From the advanced interface, click on Privacy Control module and select the Antiphishing tab.

From there please disable Scan SSL, close all the windows and reboot your machine.

The current situation should be solved after the restart.
