Bdagent.exe - Unable To Locate Component

Options

To try and make a long story (sort of) short, I stupidly clicked on a link I shouldn't have, and managed to get myself infected. I ended up purchasing and installing Bitdefender plus 2012. Finally my scans came back clean, but I was still getting random firefox pages opening, etc, so I decided to try a system restore, this morning. Everything seems to be grand now, aside from having to repair the programs that were affected (my old antivirus icons came back, as well as games that had been uninstalled, etc). The problem now concerns my Bitdefender.

I downloaded and ran the uninstallation tool to remove it, then redownloaded and reinstalled. I've done this three times now, and everytime, I end up with the same window popping up:

bdagent.exe - Unable to locate component

This application has failed to start because mfc100u.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I've also had this error come up saying it couldn't locate seccenter.exe.

HEEELP??? Aside from uninstalling and reinstalling, I really don't know what else to do!

    Hello :)

    Welcome to the forums.

First off all, uninstall extensions from your favorite browser. I think you have a fake one installed and that why you get those pages opened randomly.

After that, reinstall the product by following all the steps from here:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?act...f=241&id=44

Let me know if everything is OK now.

    Take care.

  • Thank you, Christian :) Unfortunately, those are the same steps that I had been following before, and it was still unsuccessful. I've tried again, this morning. Right now, I'm trying to install again, but it's been sitting at the install stage for the last 15 minutes, hanging at 50%. Here's what I've been through this morning:

When I tried the first time this morning, scanning the system, downloading & installing the installation files all went fine, but the second that it started the services, the bdagent error popped up again. I left it alone, and it finished, saying that it had cleaned one infected item, and my computer was now protected. No icon showed up in my taskbar. Double clicking the desktop icon just gave me the seccenter.exe error. When I looked in task manager, it listed the desktop update service as running, the update server v2 as stopped, and the virus shield as running. If I right-clicked to go to process, there weren't any listed. SO I ran the uninstaller again.

I opened the properties of the bitdefender setup that I downloaded, and clicked to unblock. I rebooted, and ran CCleaner, and had it scan for registry issues, which I clicked to fix all. I got a notification telling me that Windows defender is off and cannot turn on (encountered error 0x800106ba) and I found that I couldn't open task manager, the icon would show up in the task bar, and flash green. I tried rebooting but it just sat at the logging off screen for close to 20 minutes, so I just held the power button till it shut down.

Restarting, at first, looked like everything was fine, I ran CCleaner again, had no issues opening the task manager, but still can't turn on Windows Defender. So now, as I look, the bitdefender that I had started to reinstall before replying here, is still, in fact, sitting at 50%. According to task manager, it's not frozen..still shows that it's running. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials right now (which is what I had been using before getting infected). I'm really at a loss here. I have no idea what else to do.

    Hello :)

    Welcome back.

Please go to Control Panel and uninstall everything in that list related to Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (2005, 2008, 2010, etc).

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows...hange-a-program

Now reboot, run CCleaner to clean up the registry:

    http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/usin...gistry-cleaning

Now, install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2010 Service Pack 1 first:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=30059

Download Bitdefender Uninstall tool from here, right click on it and choose Run as administrator.

    http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

Reboot again, download the installation kit and right click on it and choose Run as administrator.

Let me know if everything is OK.

    Have a great weekend!

  • Typical..I just get started on your instructions, and already run into trouble. I had like 6 different things listed related to Microsoft Visual C++ and at first everything was going fine. I got to the last one and ran into trouble.

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 10.0.40219 When I click to uninstall I get a window telling me the feature I am trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. It's looking for 'vc_red.msi'. When I click to cancel it tells me the installation source for this product is not available and that I need to verify that the source exists and that I can access it <_<

    Hello :)

Actually that is the cause of the whole thing here.

Bitdefender 2012 needs Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2010 Service Pack 1 to function properly.

This pack is installed together with our software. If you have it already installed and it's falling to uninstall, that's why Bitdefender can not be installed properly.

Please try to use this method from MSDN forums:

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/pl...cd-ab4f6cd3ff95

    Thank you.

  • Maybe I'm doing something wrong (I'm not accustomed to using tools like msiinv.exe) but I followed all the instructions, ran msiinv.exe with the command msiexec /x {F0C3E5D1-1ADE-321E-8167-68EF0DE699A5} and when I clicked to confirm that I wanted to uninstall, I ended up getting the same error message as before, using the control panel  (I'm about ready to take this laptop to the roof...and see if it can fly!)

  • So, I thought I'd try something else. I downloaded vcredist_x86.exe from here but unfortunately ended up with the same error. I'm confused about something. When I get the error, I get the option to browse for the location of the vc_red.msi. When I do, the default file that opens shows the file  Maybe this is a stupid question..but if it's right there, why can't it finish removing the Microsoft Visual C++? I'm attaching a screen shot to show what I'm talking about.

    Hello :)

    Welcome back.

The file is there, but you need to point to the exact version as the one that is already installed.

In your case, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 10.0.40219 is 2010 without Service Pack 1 included.

    Let try something:

    Download this file:

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/detai...=en&id=5555

and save it on your desktop.

Using an archiver like WinRAR, WinZIP or 7-ZIP, extract the content of the file in a folder.

Now, try to uninstall again Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Control Panel.

When Windows Installer is asking for that file again, point where you have extracted that version.

Continue the process and restart the PC.

After that, install Bitdefender 2012 from here:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?act...f=241&id=44

Let me know if everything is OK now.

    Take care.
