Bitdefender Prevents Win7-64 Auto Backup?

I installed Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 on a new Windows7-64 machine and discovered the Win7 auto backup will not run. Win7 claims I don't have enough availalbe space. After a lot of research I discovered this has been an issue with BitDefender for a while. See a thread related to the same issue for the 2011 version at http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=24334.

Apparently BitDefender adds files to the "System" partition on the MBR and when the amount of free space gets below 40% the auto backup and system image functions won't work.

I'm surprised this is still an issue with the 2012 issue, and that it wasn't mentioned in any of the reviews I read while researching what to get to replace Norton 360 which I used for 10 years with no issues. What is the easiest workaround to fix this?

The only alternative I've found involves increasing the size of the system partition, but I've already loaded a bunch of software on the C: partition and can't just increase the system partition without loosing that.

Please advise.
