What 2nd Product Best Complement Bitdefender?

Hello,

I own Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 and I wonder what 2nd product best complement Bitdefender?

I was always told and read in many industry magazines that it is worthwhile to have 2 security and antivirus software because each has its strengths and weaknesses.

So I ask the experts here, what other software should I look into that would complement the strengths and weaknesses of Bitdefender Internet security 2012.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I like WinPatrol. I have the paid version (WinPatrol PLUS). It takes a snapshot of your system and alerts you of any changes/additions to startup areas, services, browser helpers, active x, protected registry, host file, etc. After having this, I don't think that I would do without it. Google it so you can have a better understanding of the program and the differences between the free and paid version. It's considered a very light HIPS program.

    Hi :)

    Welcome to the forums!

Running multiple security solutions on the same PC may affect their proper functionality as they compete for access to the same system resources. Even if they are turned off, there are some active processes running in the background.

We recommend you to uninstall other security solutions in order for Bitdefender to work properly.

    Take care.

  • I guess if you wanted to, you could consider using an "non-install" online scanner for a second opinion (disabling the On Access Scanning during that time), as they will not install a running file that can conflict with Bitdefender, as Christian so wisely warns us about. :)

    Hello :)

A scanner needs to load a driver so it can scan for rootkits. Even if the product is not installed and can run as a standalone tool, it will still load that driver in the scanning procedure.

So that's why I am telling you to uninstall any other security products.

    Take care.

You are making a general statement. You are stating that BitDefender should not run alongside any other security product including a HIPS program like WinPatrol?

    Hi :)

    Actually is not that general.

Two security solutions should not run on the same machine and I am not talking here about multi-engine security products.

There is not need to use that one near Bitdefender. You can activate Paranoid Mode and is basically the same thing.

    Take care.
