My BitDefender Internet Security 2012 is having problems with firewall , its blocking most of the legit programs i try to access , even programs like win rar , have to manually unblock them most of the times , kindly sort this out .

I would recommend keeping Intrusion Detection System (IDS) turned OFF.
This will help increase system responsiveness and will allow common programs to run without much effect on your system's security. To turn IDS off, please follow these steps:
- open Bitdefender, click on Settings, go to the "Firewall" panel
- in the "Settings" tab from the top, set "Intrusion detection system" to OFF
