Firefox Slow Slow S L O W

I just installed BitDefender Internet Security 2012 the other day and was excited since it got such good reviews. One reason I switched is because I had heard that Norton is known for slowing everything down (and I think it was indeed slowing my system down) so I was looking forward to the change. Installation was smooth so I was happy, then I tried Firefox and wondered if I wouldn't start regretting my decision? It was sooooo slow!!! Looked online and found old posts about Bitdefender slowing Firefox down that were 2-3 years old so I started doubting I'd be happy with it - if this was a known issue back then, why am I still encountering it in 2012? Shouldn't it have been fixed long ago?

Anyway, I tried looking for some solutions and didn't want to start messing with registry stuff so I just turned all of the anti-phishing features off like I saw in one post. This has helped but only somewhat. There's still a delay that shouldn't be there at all. Is there something else I could try? And is there any way to get rid of the red critical problem warning in the Bitdefender window (red since phishing features are deactivated).

I hope this is easy to fix and no longer an issue in the future. I use Firefox all day for work and research so this is a major issue for me.

Other configuration info if needed:

Windows 7

Firefox 12

Let me know if I've forgotten anything.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have!
