Bitdefender Suddenly Blocks Spoolsv.exe

Hello!

I have a Dell E6520 running Windows 7 64 bit. Bitdefender 2012 has been installed on it for several months without incident (for the most part).

The other day, the user complained of not being able to print. After going through the common issues, if I turned off BD firewall, printing proceeded without interruption.

I tried setting up a rule; doesn't save.

I ran "Repair", no change.

I removed and reinstalled, no change.

Please advise,

Joe

  • - Is it possible that your printer is set as a network printer? Or shared in some way?

maybe try to make it local only, connect by usb, etc.

Have a look in bitdefender > Firewall > "application Rules" ???(might be different, i translated)

And make sure Spoolsv is in there,

    - Maybe remove the printer and re-install it after you install Bitdefender.

    - Or... Although Spoolsv.exe is a legitimate part of windows

    They can get infected

or sometimes mall-ware can disguises itself as spoolsv.exe in the hopes that the disguise will trick the AV software.

If that's the case, do a full scan in Safe Mode maybe spoolsv.exe is infected.

Or look online for a clean version of spoolsv.exe and overwrite it.
