How To Turn Off Real Time Protection
So how do you turn off Real Time protection? It's fine on my 4-gigs-of-RAM desktop but my ###### Toshiba laptop with 512 megs and Vista Home Premium already runs like a slug with everything deleted from the startup part of the registry. It's running pretty slow with BitDefender there. How's it get turned off? I just want it to run a scan once in a while.

No. It's boring. I might fall asleep. How about you tell me instead of wasting time telling me to do inane things.0 -
Will both of you just CALM DOWN?!?
And stop swearing on the forum!, cause you're not at a football match, you're on an official forum! Next burst like this will cause both of you to get a warning!
@GayusMarius: Yes, you might need to read the manual, because I think you'll find some very interesting things there. But, because I'm a nice guy, I'm going to answer your question: to disable Realtime Protection go to SecCenter -> Settings -> Antivirus and un-check the checkbox for Realtime Protection.
It will ask you for how long you want to disable it, so choose Permanently and click OK.
And remember: at the next behavior like this, you'll get a Warning!

Well how would you describe a Toshiba running Windows Vista Home Premium with AERO with NO gfx card and 512 (wait 501) Megs of RAM? Even the borg would get a bit emotive at the thought of such an ungodly piece of hardware!!! " />
Oh and thank you for answering my question.
Oh and I turned Aero off and turned all the effects off, turned IPv6 off, slaughtered the registry, uninstalled everything I could find (after a format). (before the format there was like a 10GB partition recovery partition even though it is only a 20GB harddrive...) And even after all that it still runs like some sort of slug. The guy who designed this was insane at best and a sadistic maniac at worst.0 -
Hmmm I forgot about this thread. But there's on thing I want to say.
I've got BitDefender Free Edition v10 OEM and I couldn't find the method you were suggesting. I unchecked the "Start with Windows" box in Settings or something. Is that the same thing? I couldn't find this "Disable Realtime protection" thing.0 -
OK...at this point, you have to notice that you really have to read the manual, or at least the description from the site, of the product that you are using
BitDefender v10 Free Edition doesn't have any realtime protection capabilities. It is only an On Demand scanner, and that's why it is free. If your computer is running slow, then BitDefender v10 Free is not the cause.

But what's that thing down in my system tray; the BitDefender icon? It scans my e-mails for generic.peed.eml's and other evil e-mails and blocks me from seeing them. While the marketeers of BitDefender may not want to say v10 OEM has Real-Time Protection, it still provides some level of Real-Time protection when it's set in settings to run at Startup with Windows. What other features does it provide (apart from the aforementioned e-mail scanning) if it runs at Startup? Is there any point running it at startup/not running it at Startup. If you don't wish to elaborate then tell me which section of the manual I can find an explanation, if at all, for this.0 -
Dear GayusMarius,
If you don't want to load the the bitdefender virus shield part you can try this go to start, run, type at the run dialog box: resvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender10\vsserv.exe" press enter and
resvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender10\bdss.exe" you have to change C by the letter of your hard disc where BitDefender is installed on. This will prevent the load of the parts that are used for realtime protection. Go also to start, run, type msconfig at the run dialog box press enter. Uncheck bdss.exe,vsserv.exe. Confirm the windows message and choose for reboot your pc. What is possible that it's found during a normal scan.
Best regards
