Considering Bitdefender.. Couple Of Questions.
Hey.
Sorry if this is brief, not being typed on the computer.
Considering Bitdefender AV/Total Security for my home PCs.. Currently have the trial installed pretty impressed.
PCs are both running Windows 7 X64 and connected to NAT/SPI router. Will the Bitdefender firewall found in Total Security bring any real benefit over running just the AV product along with Windows 7 firewall and my router firewall? I do not want numerous firewall prompts, how does Bitdefender decide firewall rules for new applications? Is there a database of settings that get automatically applied or does the user have to decide for unknown applications?
Also, I notice the configuration is very limited for the updates module. Obviously I would leave auto update on. Coming from Norton, updates were published roughly every 15 minutes. What is the general frequency for Bitdefender?
Are the updates pushed out to clients when they're published, or does the program check for updates every so often? In this case, what is the frequency of update checks the program makes. I'm mainly referring to definition updates here.
Roughly how many updates are published each 25 hour period?
Finally does the product include any reputation based file analysis and/or sandbox/behavioural detection.
How about cloud based detection of new threats?
Sorry for all the questions but I want to be sure about the product before purchasing multiple licenses.
Thanks.

1) When you use Firewall of Security Software e.g Bitdefender, you will have to disable Windows and Router Firewall. For your concern about numerous Firewall prompts, Bitdefender has Auto Pilot Mode.
Here is some information from User guide
For all the users who want nothing more from their security solution than to be protected without being bothered, Bitdefender Total Security 2013 has been designed with a built-in Autopilot mode.
While on Autopilot, Bitdefender applies an optimal security configuration and takes all security-related decisions for you. This means you will see no pop-ups, no alerts and you will not have to configure any settings whatsoever.
In Autopilot mode, Bitdefender automatically fixes critical issues, enables and quietly manages:
• Antivirus protection, provided by on-access scanning and continuous scanning.
• Firewall protection.
• Privacy protection, provided by antiphishing and antimalware filtering for your web browsing.
• Automatic updates.
Some more information is here [fad] Creating Rules Without Prompt., With Paranoid ON.
2) Yes the update settings are very limited. Don't know the general frequency of updates in 2013 and 2012 versions. However in the 2011 version the Bitdefender checks for update every 15 mins upon the system start and then checks at regular intervals of about one hour.
And by seeing from the Events, I think that the updates pushed out to clients when they're published because the update timings are random.
3) Sandbox: Bitdefender has Sandbox feature only for Browsers and not for Applications yet. Also Sandbox is not available on computers running Windows XP.
Behavioral Detection: Yes, it has and Bitdefender is the pioneer in that.
