Telling Bitdefender Not To Delete Files

I just let BitDefender scan my system and it deleted two joke programs that I knew I had on my hard drive. They are neither in quarantine, nor in the Windows trashcan.

Luckily I found them on some websites again.

To prevent this from happening again, where do I tell BD to keep these programs or at least move them into quarantine? I didn't find such an option in the settings.

Having BD delete files right away without warning is an unacceptable behaviour.

    Hello Unregistered,

The option can be found in the scan settings.

For the Realtime Protection: Antivirus -> Custom level -> <actions>

For the On Demand scans: Antivirus -> Scan -> <right-click on the specific job> -> Properties -> Custom Level -> <actions>

I checked the settings and in most properties, it says the following:

    First Action <Disinfect files>

    Second Action <Move to Quarantine>

So why did it delete the files directly instead of moving them to quarantine? Nowhere is it set to delete the file.

  • Well, I don't really know how Disinfect solves the problems, but I remember seeing somewhere (maybe in the BD Manual) that, for some infections, Disinfect = Delete. Maybe the Jokes are included in this category.

My suggestion is this: set all actions (for On Demand scanning) at Do Nothing. This way, whatever BitDefender finds, it won't take any actions about them without asking you first (YES, Do Nothing is actually Ask. The reason why it is called like this is because it sets BD not to take any automated actions for the detected infections).

For Realtime Scanning, I recommend the action Block. If BD blocks a file, then you can make a manual scan on that file and decide what to do with it.
