Interesting Problem I Had With Internet Security 2013 - Loss Of Connectivity

I installed Bitdefender Internet Security 2013 (3PC License) about a month ago. and the installation went off without a hitch.


Computer A one day had no internet. I was helping remotely on the phone.


I had the person do the following:


Check Cable modem, does it have power, lights


check router, power lights?


verify cables are snapped in


Check your IP


and this is where the problem was.


The computer claimed the CAT5 was disconnected even though it was not.


I had the person disable that connection and then re-enable it. Viola connected. ipconfig /all


and no IP. that's weird. In fact it only displayed


"Windows IP Configuration" and nothing else. Very strange indeed.


I asked the person to open BD and disable the firewall, via the on/off button on the main window. They said it would go off for a second and then automatically switch back to on.


This is when I started to see that it was beyond a telephone call and I needed to be there.


In the meantime I had another computer have the exact same problem. I figured it was BitDefender, so I went to uninstall it, but ended up choosing the repair crossing my fingers. And the repair worked.


So in conclusion, I have no idea what happened with BD to make it have those symptoms. It was not obvious that the issue was BD until i had a second computer do the exact same thing. I thought it was hardward failure until then. It stumped me for about a week between each computer. I hope this helps someone, and even the devs.
