Bitdefender Interfering With Nvidia Video Driver Installation

Options

Well, everything started with a good intention (doesn't it always?). I wanted to update my video driver to the latest WHQL version provided by nVidia.

I did the usual, downloading the international version (306.81) for my nVidia Geforce GTX560Ti running on Windows XP SP3 and executing it. I followed the instructions as usual but after the installation the setup presented me with the note that the installation of the driver failed.

It literally took me hours to isolate that BitDefender is the culprit.

Disabling it didn't help, i had to uninstall it just to install the driver successfully. I don't know which module caused it since disabling them didn't change anything. Only a full uninstall and a reboot (of which i did quite a few today) enabled me to install the video driver.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could fix the issue in BitDefender so that future video driver updates won't cause that much frustration.

    Hello :)

A product update was released. Your build should be 16.23.0.1637(please right click on Bitdefender icon from system tray-near the clock-and choose "About". You should see in the left side the build number).

In order for the product update to be installed, you need to reboot your machine(you should see in the Events -> "Reboot required" under the Update module).

Let me know if the situation is solved.

    Have a nice day.

  • Hi,

I think this problem continues. After upgrading to antivirus plus 2013 I have come across with this issue. I couldn't install nvidia driver without uninstalling bitdefender.

    (XP SP3

    nvidia driver version 314.22-desktop-winxp-32bit-english-whql

Bitdefender antivirus plus 2013 build 16.29.0.1830)

    Hello,

Do you remember the exact error message encountered or did you keep a screen shot of it? Could you please post it here?

I will also need a Bitdefender diagnostic tool, as explained in this topic:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=29927

If the file is too big to attach, upload it on

    http://www.sendspace.com or http://www.mediafire.com

    and post the download link.

If you were already asked to generate these logs, disregard the above message and just post the ticket ID.

    Thank you.

The error message was only "nvidia installer failed" and there was no additional explanation. I tried installing previous working version but it gave the same error. Since upgrading Bitdefender was the only change in my computer recently, first I disabled and then uninstalled it. I found this topic after solving the problem and understanding that they are related, so I don't have a screenshot.

For now I haven't chosen to reproduce the issue but if this log isn't enough to identify the error, I could.
