Scan For Dialers

In all BitDefender Home solutions there's a selected box that exlcude Dialers from scan...

Is it right? I mean, it sounds like a lack of protection.... but it's selected by default...

If I execute a code that contains a dialer, I'll be infected?...

Thanks a lot!

Sorry for my poor English!

    Dear fabiowilly,

Dialers are only harmfull with people that still have isdn connection because they have to call in each time by their isp. But people who still use it are an minority. If you perform a deep scan or complete scan dialers are being detected. You can verify it right click on the scan tasks press on properties, click on custom you will see that it's located under scan settings. That is checked by default. Which means that BitDefender searches for dialers. I couldn't find any option that is called exclude. If you are referring to the exceptions that is only for files and folders.

What solution of BitDefender do you have installed?

    Best regards

In every 2008 solution defult settings says "Skip dialers and applications from scan"

I think it isn't the best choice....

  • Dear fabiowilly,

By default the option to scan dialers is checked under scan options. So you must have unchecked that option.

Please post a screenshot about what you talking about. I am speaking about the normal home user products. The strange thing the option you say isn't even mentionned in the manual.

    Best regards

As U can see, if the box is checked no dialer will be detected. Weird...

    This is the default configuration.....

  • Dear fabiowilly,

I was speaking about the on-demand scans. Sorry about that. I thought that you was speaking about that.

The reason why that option is checked is for lowering the cpu and memory usage. If you put the slider on aggressive when you are in the shield section than that option will be unchecked.

    Best regards

    Hello fabiowilly,

So, to be clear: dialers, as Niels said, are applications that, without your approval, use your modem to call over-taxed phone numbers. This kind of applications are used by certain people as a method to steal money from you, because you are forced to pay for some calls that you didn't make, and a part of the money that you pay get to the people that made that dialer.

This kind of applications only affect you if you have a modem in your computer and if that modem is installed and connected to the telephone line. Otherwise, dialers do not affect you in any way.

As Niels said, that option is enabled by default to decrease CPU usage, because detecting dialers doesn't represent a big priority if you don't have a modem (and dialers will still be detected on manual scans).

If you have a modem connected to the telephone line, un-check that option. Otherwise, it would just be a waste of resources. :)
