Help Please!
Hi. I did run a quick search but as I'm having the week from h*** (received some very terrible personal news), and I just don't have the patience to keep searching so I hope no-one will mind my posting a new thread.
Also, because I am literally still having trouble with the simplest of matters, rather than directing me to what could be seen as complicated answers already posted elsewhere, I would really appreciated it if someone could just answer me directly in clear, with screenshots as needed, kind of way.
Problem One:
For the past week I cannot get the button to stay on "Auto" as opposed to "User Controlled" when I opened My BitDefender in the main screen.
Problem Two:
The wheel shaped icon that normally appears in the lower left part of my screen, has been gone for several days. Is this connected to the above "Auto" function that won't stay on? Do one or both of the indicate, when there and funcitioning, that the Continuous Scan function is working correctly? (I don't know if the "wheel shaped icon and the Auto feature" both disappeared at the same time or not. Like I said, brain is scrambled right now.)
Sorry if I sound like an idiot, but it really is taking everything I've got right now to even ask these questions.
Any and all help would be appreciated, but again, please try to put your advice in the simplest of terms.

Problem One:
Make sure that "Update" is set to Auto Update "On" Then try switching to Autopilot
Problem Two:
From the BD main screen, select Settings, then click on General and make sure the Security Widget is toggled ON0 -

Also, changing other features settings can trigger the User Mode. There have been some reported issues with settings not being saved, we'll see if the newest build, 16.23.0.1637 resolves some of the know issues.

Thank both so much! The auto-up and security widget had both been turned off. Not sure how, but I have turned them back on and set it back to auto-update. My "wheel" thingy is back, but the button in the upper right corner of the main screen still won't stay on auto and keeps flipping back to "user mode." I hit the "auto-scan" tab on the main screen, updated and it now it says everything is up to date and that I have "no issues need to be fixed."
I am wondering a couple of things though.
One:
I have run several full computer scans since purchasing this several weeks ago. When it reports the scan results I hit either "fix" or "delete" if the fix option doesn't appear, for anything that comes up. Am I not supposed to to that?
Two:
Also, one thing that comes up every time is that I'm missing a "critical Windows update" but it will not successfully download the update. Despite that, I haven't haven't had any problems with any of my programs. (Windows Home Premium 2007 - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.) The only thing I've a consistent issue with is my Hotmail program and that is only that it refuses to send or receive to a couple of contacts. I suspect that I may have accidentally banned them using the "Sweep" function in trying to delete with spam. I've been to both the Windows and Hotmail online help forum but so far am not having much luck with the suggested repairs.
I did have some major virus issues twice earlier this year and took it to be professionally fixed. That's how I ended up with Bitfender, which my repair guy said was the best decision after AVG let me down. He's pretty confident that all the issues had been addressed, though it did take some time root out whatever it was I'd picked up. Wish I could provide more information, but this is the best I can manage.
Based this admittedly pitiful info, can you see anything I've should or should not be doing?0 -
You're welcome, but I have to give kudos to Firecapt for his hitting the issues for you
As far as the Autopilot/User Mode spastic actions, you can try running a Repair and see if that fixes the issue for you (it worked for me in the past with that type of issue)
As far as question #1, hopefully someone else can help you with that one, as I have my Scan option set to Quarantine, and I haven't had a virus for so long, that I don't know what to say on that one. I suppose you could set it to quarantine, and ask here if you wondered about a file that you know is good. To set to quarantine: Antivirus/Settings/Modify/Actions/Move file to quarantine. Yet, someone else may chime in for you on this one
#2, I would just run a Windows Update manually and see if it shows a critical update, or check your Windows Update history (Control Panel/Windows Update/) and on the left side click view Update History, and make sure all the updates were installed successfully, and that there isn't one listed as failed in the important category. That way you can be sure, as Bitdefender Vulnerability Scan isn't always up to date, or error-less.
By the way, your posts have been fine, you've included good info. for us to go by, so you can feel good in that regard
