Should Bt Be Useing The Disk Drive?

You know, those old 1.44MB disks no one really uses anymore?

Anyhoo, whenever BT updates I hear that drive getting access and I swear it didn't used to do that. Is this normal for the program?

  • Open the control panel for BD, and click Settings>Scan tab. Right click on each scan session, and check 'Show Task Path'. There will be a list of the drives that are being scanned with each session type. If your 1.44 drive is listed, that is why you are hearing it accessed.

Someone more familiar with the program will have to tell you how to remove that drive if that is your wish, though, sorry.

    Oh dear.

I forgot to mention this is when it's updating itself, not an actual virus scan.

And I also called it BT... *sigh* Remind me to re-read my posts >.<

  • Dear TheFlameCrow,

Do you still have a diskette in your drive? If so that is the reason BitDefender on-access scanner will scan all drives. That is normal behaviour. If you don't want your diskette drive being scanned.

    Best regards

Well... on the computer back home I have BD IS 2008 and it doesn't access the floppy drive after an update. The computer I'm at right now is actually a laptop and it doesn't have a floppy drive, so I can't test if anything changed since I was home the last time (on my laptop, I have BD TS).

@TheFlameCrow: Since when did this behavior start?

Try to disable the boot sector scan and see if the problem appears again.

Security Center -> Settings -> Antivirus -> Custom Level, un-check Scan the boot sector.

Note: The above suggestion is for testing only. After you make a test, please re-enable the boot sector scanning, because it's a critical security feature. Please post the result.

    Cris.

P.S.: Come to think of it, as I remember, BDv10 had an option to scan (or not) the floppy on access. But as I see now, this option has disappeared in 2008 series.
