Lengthy Windows Start-up Requires Safe Mode / Reinstall

Once every 10 to 20 times that I boot up, Windows (XP Pro) takes forever to load, then once it gets to the desktop all I have is the desktop background - no tool bar, start menu or desktop icons. Three fingered salute does nothing. Have to turn off at the CPU and then reboot to safe mode. System restore has worked in the past as well as MSConfig and unchecking everything in Start-Up. All of those failed today (after 2 months of dealing with this on all three of my computers I'm ready to go buy something else......

Its interesting that it doesn't happen every time. Nothing new has been installed on any of my systems so the randomness makes me believe that its conflicting with something at start-up.

My big question that no one seems to be able to answer is simply this:

Is there any way that I can manually load this software after Windows loads....? That would most likely fix the problem. If not, you can have my $80.00 (tech support says its too late for the refund) and I'll go buy Norton, Norman, McAfee.......anything but this nightmare piece of software that I have little control over and has made my life a living ###### AND cost me hours and hours and hours of productivity.

Thanks in advance.

Ok - I have done that and as the problem is intermittent I will not know for another week or so whether it worked or not. I will repost either way and thank you for giving me a direction to go......
