Vista 32 Bitdefender Not Recognised As Malware Protection
Ok so have installed the trial version of amtivirus 2008 on a numver of Vista 32 machines and all report Bidefender as not having malware protection enabled.
Does anyone test this stuff? or is this regarded as a feature!

G’Day g4hlf,
Did you enable it if it is part of the Utility ?
It could also be a bad installation or it did not configure itself – possible that you have another security program active while you were installing the BDAV and this prevented the proper installation of the program.
On a side note:
There is no such a thing as a Anti-Virus or any other type of Ant-anything including Internet Security Suits that will protect you from “everything” that Hackers, Spammers and the like will attempt to use to try and infiltrate or infect your PC if they actually target you.
With modern electronic equipment and the speed by which this can be done (faster CPU’s then ever before) make individual Anti-Virus or other single item protection just about useless and adding to the problem of protection, is the known issues of “conflict” which some of these programs have when run jointly as TSR’s (Terminate Stay Resident Programs that are loaded at system start and reveal themselves on the right of the Start Bar)
As an example: Running the AdWatch (part of the AdAware 2007) as a TSR while BitDefender is also loaded, creates a conflict in that you have 2 programs monitoring the same intruder attempts which on a PC just does not work correctly. However the Scan functions of AdAware behaves normally while a Security suite is active on the system, including BDIS or similar type suites..
There are not many exceptions to this rule, “Only run one Good Security Suite on your System that protects you against the main known intrusions attempts on your system and gives you good protection while browsing the Internet (www – World Wide Web)”
I suggest using any of the top 10 ranked Security Suites, in which BitDefender Internet Security 2008 and BitDefender Total Security 2008 are included.
I suggest that you download a trial version of one of these (make sure that you download the correct 32 or 64 bit version Vista32 = you download the 32 bit version) - uninstall the single protective Anti-Virus program and then install the BDIS program you chose.

Dear g4hlf,
If you study that message you will see that it actually refers to the antispam protection. But you can verify that the protection is enabled by right clicking on the red BitDefende icon near the system clock now you will see that all protection is active. You can just ignore that pop-up. You can see if everything is running once you open the BitDefender Security Center. You could try this type services.msc into the windows vista search text field press enter, left click now on the Windows management instrumentation service and click on stop. Now navigate to the windows, system 32,wbem and delete only the repository folder. Restart the Windows management instrumentation and reboot your pc.
Best regards
