newly installed bitdefender 2008 on windows xp home,

upon shutting down xp , a END PROGRAM pop-up window appears for 2-3 seconds saying bdagent.exe. Have already unistalled and re-installed BD to no avail. Any ideas?

There is nothing to worry about.

Sometimes, an applications takes a few moments to close, and Windows shows that dialog giving you the option to force that application to close. However, the fact that that window is shown doesn't necessarily mean that there's a problem with he application (in this case, bdagent.exe).

As long as it takes only 2-3 seconds and then it closes by itself, it's perfectly OK. This behavior is not general (to me, it doesn't happen.. but it used to happen some time ago). If just depends on the configuration and what applications are running.

And especially because BitDefender is a security application, sometimes it just takes longer to close because it scans some processes that are run when the system shuts down. When the scan is finished, BD closes.

You should be worried (and report this as a bug, or a problem), when that END PROGRAM window doesn't disappear at all, and Windows reports bdagent as NOT RESPONDING. Until then, there's nothing to worry about.
