Problem Updating Windows Xp X64

Hi

I can't update Windows XP x64 unless I turn on the Game Mode!

I have Vista on the other partition, and there is no problem as such!

Looking forward for a solution at the earliest.

Thanks...

Hemanth

    Hi

I know that a program on my disc is responsible for Windows to update. Which program is it? I would manually configure bitdefender to allow it, to connect to the Internet.

    Many Thanks,

    Hemanth

  • Dear hemanth,

wuauclt.exe and wupdmgr.exe are the parts that windows update uses. You will find them in the system 32 subfolder of the windows folder. What is the problem exactly? Do you see an error message?

    Best regards

    Dear Niels,

Bitdefender asked me to allow or block the Windows update program, when I first installed it. I gave block, because I did not know that they are the Windows update programs!

Soon I removed them from being blocked.

After that, every time I tried updating Windows, or every time Windows tried updating itself; it never asked for a permission to connect!

I have now manually allowed wuauclt.exe and wupdmgr.exe on Bitdefender. I have not tried uninstalling one of the Microsoft Update programs, to see, if allowing these two programs would solve the problem. However, I would keep you updated.

    Many Thanks,

    Hemanth

  • Dear hemanth,

I can't remember that I was asked in the past for allowing the windows update parts. But it could be that I also allowed it. This is strange because Windows update are allowed by default you can verify it by press on show white list.

Normally you don't need to add wuauclt.exe and wupdmgr.exe to be able to use windows update. Sometimes the firewall profile could get "confused". To solve that you can press on reset profile. The only thing is that you have to add programs again to the allow list. This might be the reason of your issue.

  • Hi Neils

Yes, allowing wuauclt.exe and wupdmgr.exe manually has solved the problem!!!

Well, why would the firewall profile get confused?

    Thanks,

  • Hello hemanth,

I wish that I could answer that but I am only a normal BitDefender user. For me that untill today never happened. Sometimes it could be that BitDefender bdmcon.exe crashes this handles all the BitDefender modules which might caused the profile to get corrupted.

    Best regards
