i went into the settings then to exceptions. i typed in

C:\Program Files\Call of Duty Fame of the Year Edition\pb\PnKBstrK.sys

after that the next one that come up that was blocked was

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\PnkBstrK.sys

after this one was added to the exceptions it worked fine. i played for a few hours run a scan and all came back clear. played again for a while and still scan comes up clear. so if anyone runs into this this should fix your issues.

i removed scanned downloaded added again and all that fun stuff i still had the same issues. i play C.O.D. the first one. after doing the exceptions it is up and fine.. i am on my 3rd time of playing and scanning. no problems.

I wish i had read this forum before I uninstalled my COD4 twice and lost all my online stats. The worst part is that im still getting the hit by BD so I hope they come up with a solution for it soon. I'm not sure what SymOn is up to there, but I can assure you that the pnkbstrk.sys problem still exists with BD.

I'm trying to help people and have given the advice that's got me back working with my copy of BD AV 2008. Just because you are too retarded to update correctly, are using a lesser version or can't follow a simple instruction to add an exception doesn't bear any relevance to me. So how about you take your paranoia somewhere else?

Theres no need to uninstall bit defender , just disable the real time protection till the new update is released , re-install punkbuster with the attached file i have to this post and you should be able to play again - it worked for me.

Hi Laracroft , I wont upload the file again , I assume that since you didn't manage to download it from my first post , downloads may be only be able to be download by the bit defender team themselves , so here is the link instead to the punkbuster site for the program : http://www.ds-gamesolutions.net/forum/inde...amp;showfile=31

the program is very simple and straight forward , just use it to remove your punkbuster files then use it again to install them , after thier installed however , PnkBstrA and B may not be running , you may need to manaually activate them or pb will kick you off any server after 2 mins.

To activate PnkBstr A + B do the following if you have windows OS:

1. Click start , then click run, in the run box type , services.msc hit ok.

2. scroll down the list of services till you get to P, its a long list alphabetical list.

3. right click on PnkBstrA select properties and make sure it says started if not click start.

4. repeat option 3 for PnkBstrB.

5. you should now be able to play on any pb server hastle free providing your bit defender isn't continuing to block pb ,

if it does keep trying to update , upon failure just turn real time protection off and do the above again untill your BD

Bd problem is resolved.

Patience is a virtue , If you follow the examples above there would be no need for frustration. Bit defender is a great product and as long you follow instructions as to how to deal with things properly , there would be totally no problem , Avg is an pain in the arse i've used it before , My laptop is running bit defender and so is the other 2 desktop pc's i have and all are absolutely fine , the punkbuster problem was a little surprising however it has been sorted , just update your bit defender and re-install punkbuster like explained in the above posts and you'll be singing and dancing.

Ok, did the exception thing, only difference is i "actually wen't under exceptions tab" instead of clicking on the "anti-virus on the left-then clicking on shield-etc,etc" now i have put the pb folder on exceptions, i was even getting a c:\users\administrator\.my-name\appdata\local\punkbuster message which i also put under exceptions as well as my c:\windows\system32. After putting those 3 things under the exceptions tab, i can get into my server, i stay long enough to pick a class, weapon, attachments, etc but after only a few mins into a map i get the message "Punkbuster kicked player DaGMan{DW} (for 0 minutes) This PB Server requires (A1398 C2.062)-Error Loading pbcl." Now what the heck is this now, did i screw up on my exceptions? I spent ALL day & ALL night trying to get rid of this Peed.Gen virus, actually even reformatted my 'puter several times (after the install hung once) & even ended up calling off of work today as this drove me nuts all the way up to the time i had to go to bed, it actually made me sick, clan night is tonight & still no "REAL" possible fix other than if your lucky enough to get it to work with the exceptions tab (using the correct files i suppose?) OR by disabling your real time protection which is not a smart thing to do, can anybody here save this noob & amke it still possible for me to be able to join with my squadmates tonight on my server for clan night, tell me what i'm doing wrong with these exceptions & what the heck is "Punkbuster kicked player DaGMan{DW} (for 0 minutes) This PB Server requires (A1398 C2.062)-Error Loading pbcl." ??????????

hi, I received an answer of BD today : remove the quarantine elements to original place/create exceptions for COD 4 folder and for punkbuster in system32 and it seems to work.

I "relunctantly" uninstalled my Bitdefender total security 2008 & tried a 15 day trial of Norton Internet Securities 2008 & it worked for me, now although i liked BD TS 2008, to get a false positive ID (trojan/virus) like this & not be able to do anything about it, other than some workaround (exceptions) to get it to work (and then even then,i could'nt get it to work) i just think is redicilous, i initially had Norton Internet Securities 2007 installed that came with my computer as a 3 month trial, never-never had a problem with it either, let it expire like a arse, bringing me to BD TS 2008, i've basically used Norton for the most part for most of my PC-Gaming life, so it looks like i'm just gonna purchase the Norton to keep & eat my $80.00 bucks that i paid for my BD TS 2008, hope this works out for the rest of you guys.

in the french section of this topic you can read that the solution has been brought ( no more false positive), i'm gonna see it now.

I can verify that the latest update today for BD 2008 also fixes the false positive with PunkBuster.

If you're getting this problem still, be sure to try a manual update of BD 2008.
