Bitdefender Interferes With Installation Of Programs

Sometimes when I want to install a program I am told to disable my antivirus to make sure the installation goes right. I have yet to find a way to do that. Is it possible and if so how do I do it?

    open bitdefender and turn off autoscan. that should suffice. then turn it on again when the program has finished installing.
