Total Security

I got some kind of virus on my computer that is screwing with my internet connections. It is telling me my DNS server is not responding. Connects just fine in safemode with networking. I turn on the Total security and am told that it can not run, please restart your computer. I do this again and get the same message. Frustrating this is!!

Well, if the virus is causing problems with Bitdefender, you can always do an offline scan. An offline scan is a scan that runs BEFORE your computer actually boot. That way, the virus cannot utilize the operating system or block the scan. Bitdefender ships with an offline scanner. You can learn more about this here:

Personally though, I find it kind of a pain to set up, so I'd first recommend Windows Defender Offline. It's much easier to set up, and is quick to get going.

Essentially, for Windows Defender Offline, you just download either the 32 or 64 bit (whichever one you need). Then run the program. From here, you will complete a pretty self explanatory wizard in setting up Windows Defender Offline. NOTE: Make sure if you chose the option to set up via USB drive, you should use a blank USB (or at least one without any important data on it). The reason for this is you need to completely reformat the entire USB stick (i.e. all the data will be deleted). Then once the setup is complete, reboot your computer while constantly tapping your BIOS selection key while your computer is booting (it sometimes varies from computer to computer, but it's usually the F12 key). From there select to boot from USB (or CD if you decided to use that instead).

Once you're done trying an offline scan, let me know if you need more help by simply replying to this post.
