Bd Hangs My System
Hello, and HELP!
I installed BitDefender just immediately before going on vacation a week ago. Upon my return last night, I was able to boot up my XP system and all seemed okay. At 3 a.m., my system got an automatic update called Software Distribution Service 3.0, which I assume is a Windows update. After that, the computer did an automatic reboot and then the system was completely frozen.
After fiddling with it for several hours today, I finally was able to use Safe Mode to restore the system to a prior date, before installing BitDefender. That worked so that I am able to use the computer. I did try various other things first, restoring to a previous date and then re-installing BD. As soon as I rebooted after the BD installation, the system froze again.
Is there some conflict between BD and Software Distribution Service 3.0? Or could it be that there's some conflict with some other software? At this point I have no virus protection, which is not good, obviously. Since I paid for BD, I'd rather use it, but if no-one has an answer I'll probably get McAfee or Norton.
Any ideas on what could be going on? All ideas are most welcome -- thanks!

I suggest you for get bitdefender 2008 and go for something else. The new version has too many problems. One of them is slow your computer down to a snail speed.

I did run the clean up tool somewhere in there on Sunday, and it didn't seem to make a difference. It's possible that running it at just exactly the right time in this mess might have helped; I don't know. I spent the entire day trying to get my system working again, time that I really couldn't afford having just returned from vacation. At this point I'm not willing to risk another frozen system and more hours of hassle unless someone gives me a definitive solution. I've pretty much made up my mind to not use BD any more, and am currently running another antivirus program.
Thanks for the suggestion, tho.0 -
Hello judi,
What I am thinking about is a faulty Software Distribution Service 3.0 installation by the windows installer. If you see on google that update caused problems with other people also see here.
Try this go to start, control panel, set the control panel on classic view, software check the box show windows updates now search for KB943460 and remove it.
Best regards
