Windows Messanger Remote Assistance
Hello,
[bitDefender Internet Security 2008, Windows XP pro sp2, cable connection, Linksys router BEFSR41 - on both machines next to each other]
I am attempting to initiate Windows Messanger Remote Assistance to another computer (next to me)... and failing. When I am invited to lend assistance, I "Accept(Alt+T)", and my computer displays the message "You have accepted the invitation from *** to start using remote assistance."... but nothing happens. So far I have tried on both computers:
1) Turning off BitDefender firewall
2) Turning off BitDefender firewall and enabling the MS Firewall
3) All of the above after enabling Remote Desktop on the System Properties/Remote tab
4) Rebotting after 1)-3)
The connection appears normal in every way, up to the point where I take control of the remote desktop. I understand that Remote Assistance sends and receives data via TCP port 3389. I have checked the BD firewall, and msmsgs.exe has TCP and UDP access, both directions, any address:port, allowed.
Thoughts?

Hello j_reins,
Press the windows button together with r now type services.msc press enter and verify on both pc's that the Remote Procedure Call service is started (running).
Press again the windows button together with r now type Gpedit.msc press enter expand user configuration, expand administrative templates, system, remote assistance, select offer remote assitance setting and select enabled you have to do this on the computer where you want to offer assistance on.
Go to offer remote assistance group policy, and in the helpers area, click show.
Click add and then enter the domain\user account. In this case that must be from your other computer that need to access the pc where you want to offer assistance.
Best regards
