Bitdefender Is 2014 On 1 Week Old Win 8.1 Stuck At 67%

Hi, having used Bitdefender on Win 7, thought it would be ok on my brand new install Win 8/Win 8.1 which is about 10 days old. Hmm. Wrong.

I had been running AVG; uninstalled that. Bitd. complained about Spywareblaster, so that was uninstalled. Ok.

Installation proceeded.. but stuck at 67%. No significant processor use.

Left it for 20mins or so, restarted manually. About 3 or 4 restarts later, after being stuck with 'installing services' and a blue screen etc etc it appeared to be installed.

But .. odd things happened. Cleartype was now off; I couldn't close an open dialogue of Wordpad with X, only the main dialogue; Filebox extender now opened a new explorer window, instead of changing the existing one. Unacceptable. Oh, and the Window title bar was thinner.

Uninstall... no - wouldn't complete. Had to use the removal tool. System restore to fix above issues.

Tried again after cleaning up.. stuck at 67%.. waited an hour.. manual restart- seemed installed. But issues above pertained.

Total removal- install Avast. Bye bye Bitdefender.

Sorry to hear of your problems dalchina, :(

I installed Bitdefender Total Security on my 8.1 laptop (which is basically the same install except with a couple of extra programs) and had no problems. I have to admit mine was installed completely new so the only thing I turned off prior to install was the Windows Defender Antivirus plus there was no other security software.

It does sound to me that there are some remnants of your previous AV/antimalware still lingering that is causing the problem so if you decide to have another go make sure you use the removal tools and not just the windows un-install programs - that includes running the Bitdefender uninstall tool just to be safe.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I can understand the frustration this can cause.
