Bit defender Firewall

I have recently purchased Bit Defender Internet Security vs 10.

I discovered the following article in PC Mag about the firewall module: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2036472,00.asp

"...The firewall makes no attempt to catch malicious programs that circumvent normal program control—it didn't stop any of the dozen leak-test programs I threw at it, and it's a pushover for direct attack. I disabled the protection by killing processes with Task Manager, turning off services, and even by modifying a simple text file. If I can do that manually, malware can do it automatically"

I personally did the Leak test and port scan SheildsUp at: https://www.grc.com

It passed the test great, however it did seem to fail in a further test on the same site under "IDENT, ZoneAlarm, and ShieldsUP!" with the following message:

"Unsolicited Packets: RECEIVED (FAILED) — Your system's personal security countermeasures unwisely attempted to probe us in response to our probes. While some users believe that "tracking down" the source of Internet probes is useful, experience indicates that there is little to gain and potentially much to lose. The wisest course of action is to simulate nonexistence — which your system has failed to do. Your counter-probes immediately reveal your system's presence and location on the internet"

Can anyone comment?

Many thanks in advance.

  • I agrre on the fact that BD's processes can be easily terminated but concerning leaktests personally i don't consider leaktests that you need to download to your computer too reliable.
