Bitdefender Anti Virus 2008

I am using the trial version of Bit Defender anti virus 2008. My e-mail program ( Eudora 6.1) will not download e-mails with Bit Defender running. I must disable BitDefender to receive E-Mail. Since E-mail is a source of virus this is not a good situation. How can I get Eudora 6.1 to function with BitDefender?
