Bdis 2008 And Vista Business

Hi All

I had BitDefender Internet Security 2008 with Vista and both were co existing without any problems. One fine day I had a brainwave and I decided to redo the whole setup. Now everything is fine except that BDIS takes approximately 3 minutes to load.

Dropped in mail to the support guys and they sent me links to an installer. Used the BD uninstaller and then re installed using the new installer. The only improvement was that now the icon would appear in the tray sooner but the scan activity bar still takes approximately 3 minutes to load. Till then you simply cannot do anything at all with the system. I was hoping SP1 would help but I am afraid it did not.

I am non tech guy, Would appreciate any help in this regard.

  • Hi All

As I am getting bored waiting for ideas, I tried reinstalling everything from the scratch. I am sorry to say that everything else works fine except that my protection needs a ###### lot time to allow anyone to do anything with the system.

Not that it is a critical situation, but I am considering alternatives. I would appreciate inputs in that regard too.

    Thank You

  • Hello ash,

First of all defrag the hard disk of your computer/hard disk.

To speed up things you can try the following first disabling unnecessary start up items to do that please press the windows button together with r now type msconfig press enter navigate to the startup (boot) tab and enter the name that you will find under the colomn item for startup on this website. If you see an N,X,uncheck the startup item. You can use this tool called startup delayer where you can delay the startup of other startup files and let BitDefender run first. You can download it here.

  • Hello Niels!!

Thank you for responding.... I run diskeeper 2008 and the defrag status is healthy. I had already tried unchecking almost everything in msconfig. The only three items to start at start up were Bitdefender, Sidebar and the Display drivers.

After your suggestion I tried the following:

I boot up in safe mode and the system did great. So it definitely is a third party app

I tried enabling everything in startup, there was no significant increase in boot time.

I tried enabling everything and just disabling Bitdefender, the system became responsive in less than 30 seconds.

Then i tried disabling everything and just keeping the Bitdefender enabled. It still took the 3 + minutes it takes.

So it is most definitely BDIS, enabling or disabling others did not make much of a difference.... the only hardware bottleneck I can think of is the RAM.... I just have 2 Gigs...

    So What do you say???

  • Hello Ash,

A feature called boot time defragmentation that is included in Diskeeper 2008 could also cause the delay of the boot. Disable that option. Try this as a test press the windows button together with r now type services.msc press enter. Double click on the diskeeper service and set the startup type on manual press on apply and ok. Reboot your pc and see if it's better. If you want to use Diskeer you have to do the same thing but left click on the diskeeper service and press on start.

    Best regards
