Bd Firewall Blocking Steam Login

If I turn off the BD firewall I can start Steam just fine, otherwise I get an error: "Steam is having trouble connecting to the Steam servers." This is with Windows 8.1. My computer with Windows 7, Steam and BD works fine.

I've tried this about a billion times with tons of different BD configurations, trying everything mentioned in the forums related to Steam. I was able to eliminate any type of error message from the firewall log but I still can't connect.

My Steam usually refuses to reconnect right after an update (Steam update). It connects with no issue if I quit Steam and reopen it. Steam will also reconnect (without closing/reopening) if I turn off BD's firewall.

There's some issue with BD's firewall blocking the new version at first, instead of properly creating/using new rules to allow it. I've only noticed this behavior with Steam, so it could be something unique to its update procedure causing BD to behave this way.

I see that you are using Bitdefender 2014. Please upgrade for free to Bitdefender Total Security 2015 using the same license key to register. The kit is available for download here:

Thanks Georgia, that fixed it. I did look all over BD to try to figure out whether I had BD 2014 or 2015, I was guessing that since I had just downloaded it that it would be 2015. It's nice that 2015 has it prominently labelled at the top.

I have the same exact problem. I didn't have it with BDTS 2014, upgraded to BDTS 2015 and now I can not log into steam unless I disable the firewall. I do have steam.exe listed for allow.

Odd that it doesn't allow you to connect to Steam, no consolation but it works fine on my computer. I suggest you send Bitdefender an email and ask for help.

same problem here. No problem with BDS 2014. Cannot login Steam if Firewall was activated in BDS 2015.
